One thing thats bugging me about the show is when Prop Joe gets shot Bunk only finds out a few days later and nearly by mistake.

Would that not have been huge news in Balitmore? Along the lines of Fat Freddie getting shot here.

Or when Avon is released in Season 2 and McNulty et al didn't know anything about it, would that not be well known by cops never mind in the press!

It bothers so much cause I love the realism of the shoe apart from this.

No, because in a city with so many drug dealers and kingpins and murders, the actual people become statistics to the police chiefs an the media. Another drug dealer jailed. Another drug dealer killed. Another drug dealer released from jail. Who they were doesn't really matter because when all is said and done, they move on to the next case. To the next drug dealer or kingpin or murderer.

Same with McNulty. When he goes to Stringers apartment, he realises that he never really 'knew' Stringer. Stringer was just the target. A goal for McNulty to accomplish. And even then, he had to move on to the next case, because there was always someone ready to take Stringer or Prop Joes place.

I actually think that its more realistic this way.

Also, you might want to edit the thread title to give a spoiler warning

That's why the show is realistic. Those characters may have been big for us,the viewers because we saw them every episode, but in the daily grind of the job as paddyirishman said, there are so many shootings, killings, drug busts to get the stats up.

It was the same with Omar.
When he was killed it was a massive event for the viewers but in the show,he doesn't even get a mention in the paper. A house fire gets the nod ahead of him because in the big picture of the city he was nobody.
