    Hi,

I am trying to reinstall Win XP from the Back up CD due to Malware/virus problems.

I set the laptop to reboot and it begins loading windows setup files, press f6
to load different RAID drivers etc. Then when it gets to loading
windows my computer screen flickers and crashes to a blue screen error below.I see it has been suggested to remove Goback as a solution however I do not have this on my system.

    Anyone have any ideas ?

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent
    damage to your computer.

    PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart
your computer. If this screen appears again, check to make sure any new
hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new
installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any
    windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If
you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your
computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select
    Safe Mode.

    Technical Information:

    ***STOP: 0x0000006B (0xC000003A, 0x0000002, 0x0000000, 0x0000000)

Have you tried going in to safe mode as suggested on that error?

When you reinstalled, did you do a clean reinstall (format drive and reinstall) or did you reinstall over what was there already?

Meant to ask, are you actually running GoBack on the PC? If you are you could boot to safe mode and remove it... I used to use this program years ago.. and I remember a few similar issues with it.

    Hi,

No I haven't went in to safe mode yet, excuse my ignorance but can I do a reinstall by going through safe mode?

I tried to reinstall over what was there already.Would you suggest a clean reinstall (format drive and reinstall) ?

I have backed up everything I need also.

I don't believe I am running Goback but I will recheck again .

if you haven't sorted out the malware virus problem then reinstalling over the top won't fix it , and the malware might interfere with the upgrade too...

    your options are
a - remove malware, if you do this then should not need to reinstall
b - install windows in a different folder, you will need to install all programs again , can't guarantee that won't inherit malware
c - clean install, only if you have ALL your data and ALL your disks / whatever for all your programs

However, you did mention backup CD, this could be anything as lots of windows CD's were images rather than full install cd's,

Repair install (installing windows OVER windows), also called in-place reinstall, wont sort out your problem. It sorts out little imo, even though it is one of the first things that is suggested to sort out issues with Windows.

The next step is to look at, which I would suggest trying before doing what Capn said above, would be to try to get in to Safe Mode or one of the other options on the Windows Advanced Menu...

How To Get Into Safe Mode

If it does not boot in to Safe Mode, then I would probably just reinstall. Be 100% sure that you have all the data you need backed up before you format your hard drive.
