Why can't Wrestlers impersonate an Irish accent?

Watching last week's RAW there. Why does the Miz do a cockney-Australian accent ("tawkin' like a tough guy, fellah"). (I would've called them chazwuzzers) and Cena, when making fun of Sheamus, does a cockney impression? Do they not listen to Sheamus? Do they know he's even IRISH?! Are they so ignorant to think Irish, English and bloody Australian are the same country with the same accent?

Imagine if I cut a promo on an American, saying "what's that all aboot, eh?" It'd sound retarded. And yes, it makes (American) wrestlers sound retarded and ignorant.

    /rant.

(This doesn't go in a the off-topic so I just made a new thread to vent. On a side note, when I was abroad, I asked people where Ireland was on the map, and they couldn't tell me correctly (citing Scotland or Wales) and a few guys asking me to do a British accent.....)

There are very few people in the English speaking world who can properly impersonate an Irish accent, especially a Dublin one.

We just have a very hard accent to emulate.

Only Irish people can truly mock other Irish accents in a funny way

Same reason that Tom Cruise's Oirish accent in Far & Away wasn't worth tuppence ha'penny and that Sean Connery's in The Untouchables was worth about thruppence.

Begorrah, up the fields with you and so on.

It doesn't have to be a particular dialect -- I'd settle for a 'leprechaun' impersonation "faith and begorrah, stroke me clover" and all that. At least get the country right!

I wonder if Sheamus doesn't help them out with their impressions on purpose....:P

Hang on, did Michael Cole say during Sheamus vs Bourne "sheep shot by Sheamus. Sheep but effective". That's a Scottish stereotype!!:pac::pac:

The Miz clearly did a bad accent on purpose to annoy Sheamus and the Irish people, and it worked being the great man he is. Without a doubt he could do a flawless accent if he wanted too <3

It's a lack of exposure in the American media thang.

Sean Connery does a fantastic Egyptian accent in Highlander. And Christopher Lambert is totally convincing as a Scot. TOTALLY.

I remember when Sheamus debuted on Raw, Michael Cole was banging on about the Celtic warriors of the past. He was trying to say Cú Chulainn - "Coo Coo Layne" Was pissing myself laughing.

Yeah. I'd love to believe he's just mocking it but I seriously believe he's just another ignorant American when it comes to Ireland!

I'll take this time to plug JBL when he was on SmackDown, he cut an awesome heel promo about Ireland, saying how we're england's b1tches and how we'll never get those 6 counties back! It was gold.

.. I assume this was at a Dublin house show or similar and not on TV right?

No the jbl thing was on tv, it was during his feud with Finlay a few years ago. He actually knew a fair bit about Ireland too in fairness.

Ya, I was referring to the house show :) it got brilliant cheap heat. Shows more than the usual "oh i heard your soccer team lost" or the dreaded generic "wow the fans here sure are ugly" :D

I also remember him doing it at a house show, it was the outdoor show at the RDS, fantastic promo, a lot of heat on a cold day!

Just was watching raw and they are all laughing and joking about how white Shamus is.. now this does not bother me in the slightest and I was laughing along with the sunglasses jokes etc but just think for one minute if they were laughing at how black a black wrestler was then that would be considered racist straight away? Just a thought

lol, you're exactly right, but it's 'racism doesn't exist if you're white' mentality, which I don't really agree with. I suppose it errs on the line of xenophobia and stereotype rather than out-and-out racism.... :P

Anyway, I wish Sheamus would retort either "get some new material, that jar of Mayo has gone off" or "I look better than you and the other 50 leather purses in the back with the same colour fake tan"

    fans: "cody's gay, cody's gay"
Cody: "I couldnt be gay cause i dont come from Dublin!

    :pac: :pac:

I read Lance Storm's blog suggesting that they should contact JBL, but nothing about them actually contacting him.
