DM500S clone - faulty tuner?

I was recently given a DM500S clone - dunno who made it as the MAC address is one of DM's (maybe it's not a clone?) but it won't lock onto some transponders. Maybe about a third of them on 28E.

Am I doing something wrong? Have tried it on two LNBs at two different locations that work fine with other receivers.

PLi Jade. It came with some other image, can't remember which one, but the transponder problems exist with both.

Funny, I opened it up this evening and aside from looking pretty typical, it has DN500S silk screened onto the motherboard.

I googled for DN500S and found this thread. Might be it. Looks like a faulty component.

doesnt look good.you could try a new tuner but the cost of a new box is only a slight difference between it.i'll buy it from you for spares!!!

It actually looks very simple. Solder a jumper on the offending transistor, the $0 option, or replace the transistor, the 22 cent option!
