    Hi!

I was just wondering if anyone here wax's their bikini line or more themselves? I used to always get a Hollywood but times and hard and haven’t been able to afford it the past couple of months!!!! It’s driving me crazy now! So, does anyone know a good waxing kit I could get? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks :)

    Hi,

Iv tried DIY waxing before. Its not as painful as i thought it would be and did quite a good job. The hair grew back a bit faster than a normal wax though. I got the veet wax strips and to warm them up i used to get a cup/mug of boiling water and wrap the strip around the outside for a few secs. Works much better than rubbing between your hands and it didnt burn me.

One thing I did find is Im just not bendy enough to get to all the desired places if you will ;) , so Id recommend a proper wax in between DIYs or else get your sister or friend involved. One who wont giggle preferably!

I tried this years ago and would recommend having someone nearby (as in within shouting distance if you need them) in case you find you can't pull the wax strip off yourself! This happened to me to my horror and I had to get my then boyfriend to assist!!!! Which was embarrassing!

A friend of mine always does her own waxing and uses veet strips.

I also suffered this fate, but didn't have an accomplice to assist.

My one and only experience of it (actually they were two, but the second involved a microwave, the plastic tub of wax and a small explosion), was with the strips.

I stuck on the strips (one on each side as a starter) and then they STUCK. The damn things would not come off, no matter how much I pulled, ripped etc (at this point I was unable to see due to the tears so I was pulling/ripping blindly)

After about 30 minutes of this, I finally found some lotion stuff that came with it, and managed to lubricate one strip enough to get it off, with about two small hairs clinging to it.

The second one still wouldn't budge, so I braced my leg against the door, said a few prayers, and PULLED Finally it came off, with no hairs, but a giant clump of skin about an inch square

It bleed for days, and for a few hours I was walking around like I'd been kneed in the groin.

After that experience (and the microwave explosion) wax is not something I ever want to be near again

However if you are used to having waxes done, I imagine that the chances of the above happening would be pretty much minimal :)

I went to the beautician the following day for emergency fix and she laughed! the worst part was my boyfriend thought I was calling him to the bedroom for something a little more romantic than using brute strength to separate me from a wax strip!

I think a lot of people do their own waxing quite successfully - I'm just not one of them!

It also works really well if you just use a hairdryer on them for a few seconds before using them!

Never again will i ever try home waxing....last time i had that microwavable bottle wax and went to put it on my leg and it actually poured onto my leg scalding the ****e outta me( think i left it in the microwave for 20 secs too long...but left it cool for a few mins nd it still scalded me)! Beauticians all the way!:o

I was my own eyebrows, also I can wax my legs, when I get time. I havent really tried anywhere else, apart from once when I did my arms, I dont know why I dont have dark hairs on my arms but a friend had theirs waxed and they looked lovely, I ended up with bruises on mine.

I have waxed 2 friends bikini lines mind one didnt go very well:o I use lavender wax, liek they would use in salons, with the proper wax strips also. I picked some up for a beautician 'friend' before, she never came to collect them and just really never came by again so I just started using them myself. The eyebrows are easy, legs arent too bad but I dont think Id have the ability to wax my hoohaa.

ooo Id love the able to do my own eyebrows! Dont trust myself though. My face isnt somewhere I want to risk making a mess!

Where did you pick up the lavender wax from? Was it like a beauticians wholesalers? That would be great as it would last just as long then.

I did my sisters legs before and never laughed so hard!

I cant believe so many people have had bad experiences. Though I wouldn't put two strips on at once in case one did stick.

I always do my own bikini waxes. Used the strips before but found they were useless.

The veet wax with essential oils is good - it washes off so if any gets stuck on hair you want to leave there its not a major issue! You just need to cut the strips down to the size you need and you can reuse these. It can be difficult to regulate the temperature of the wax and when you get to the end of the jar it gets really hot and then cools down too quick so you're better off getting a new jar and dumping the old stuff in.

Currently Im using the nair stuff - you dont need wax strips but unfortunately its non water soluable so if it falls on the bath or gets on hair you dont want to remove its a pain.

I've used the microwave tub one. It seemed okay. I was quite slow, so it would cool and harden and need to be put back in the microwave again so it was a bit of hassle.

I can't remember the name off hand, but it was the type that the wax hardened and cooled on the skin and you ripped it off with your hands like a plaster. It's sold in Boots. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but I still have the half full tub sitting around somewhere. That's a lot to do with me than the product though! It seemed easier than proper wax or those strip ones, so something like that could suit you.
