    Hi,

Its been over 10 years since i have invested in a new set of clubs and feel its time i purchased a new set. I see people on here talking about custom fitting etc, and i am totally alien to what this is. Would people recommend a custom fitting and how much does this cost? The process of getting a new set of clubs seems to have totally changed from the last time where you just went to the shop and bought the ones you thought looked best.

I have a budget of around 500 euro, can people tell me the best way to go about buying a new set which will be suited to my game. I play off 14 but am only getting back into the game seriously again after a long period out of the game.

The majority of golfers do not get custom fitted. It's not compulsory - some big stores will help you choose and may let you hit some balls in a simulator.

I' recommend that you get custom fitted as the clubs will be suited to your game. Yoou'll find that most golf retailers stick a launch monitor in the shop and call this custome fitting. You really need to be able to see the ball flight and shape of your shots. What you'll find is that some young lad working in the Golf Shop for the summer will ask you your handicap and based upon your answer will direct you to a stiff or reg shaft, game improver v better player iron. This is really simplistic as even higher handicappers can be properly fitted for stiff shafts. Most places will deduct the cost of the fitting if you buy the clubs. Would recommend Eamonn O'Flanagan in the Heritage Natural Golf School if you live in the general area.
