Hi everyone. Currently im in a support role for the past 2 and a half years but i've just had enough of talking on the phone.I feel like im not using my degree or benefitting at all from what i learned in college.
I have a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in computing (Information Systems).
I done 4 years in college where in the last year i had to design a project in Java. Development is something i'd like to get into in the industry but when i look for jobs on monster etc. they all seem to be looking for 2-4 years industry experience. Also because I havent done much Java in the past couple of years i feel a little rusty.
What im asking is, should i still be going for the jobs that require this kind of experience because of my exposure in College?
Are there many entry level java or VB development jobs out there?
Any feedback would be appreciated. thanks.

Best advice I can give you is to get a job in a v small IT company or in a large company with a small IT department. That way you get to do lots of different types of work and can spend extra time on the areas you like, clocking up the experiance as you go.

What was your final year project?

Have you got much other Java work you can show?

If not get cracking on some personal projects, make some stuff thats of a high quality and detail it, make a personal website detailing your projects and link it in your CV.

    thanks for the replies.
My final year project was a media player developed in Java.
When you play the music you could then pick a specific type of graphic and the objects in the graphic would react to the music...
maybe i need to develop more stuff myself. you're probably right. thanks
