Just a tip for anyone with ESPN on s*y

I went to cancel ESPN today and when i was put onto their "cancellation team" i was asked why? When i said it was too dear i was told they will give it to me for half price for the next 6 months with no commitment to keep it for the entire 6 months...

So if your paying full price ring up and cancel it :D

Sorry if this is not meant to be posted

Excellent. I'm with NTL but when I took on the package with ESPN I had to commit myself for 12 months ( had a dodgy box before hand). Therefore I cann't try your trick. So anyone with NTL willing to see if he can get the same ?

remember you have to give 30 days notice to quit ESPN

Question is, can you reconnect for free?

So if they don't take the bait and just say fine, your account will close in 30 days, can you go back then and say take me back? Or will they hit you with a reconnection fee to discourage the chancers?

As far as i know there is no connection fee i wasn't charged one any time i got ESPN.

I was told its a special offer for the next 6 months so once the person that answers the phone knows about you should be fine.

You could always cancel it and if they say nothing just say you heard there was an offer.

No idea why. I told them I didn't want it anymore and they offered it to me for four months free.

Yes and I was offered free ESPN about 3 months ago. I gave my Sky cancellation notice yesterday so ESPN was completely free for 4 months.

I crashed and burned here..did as everyone else seems to have done and called them.
They asked why i was cancelling and i said 'ah its to expensive' and they were like 'ah ok,that will be cancelled in 1 months time'.i was llike 'ok any minute now theyre gona ask' and lo and behold they didnt .The guy just said 'ah well you'll get teh bulk of the premiershup matches on sky sports'...i just said 'yea thanks'.
I want ESPN but didnt want to look like a tool and say 'ye know what i dont actually want to cancel it now' cos id look like a right knobhead so i suppose ill call back in a few days and ask them about the offer....how come everyone else gets half price and free ESPN and the fcukers just sasy good riddance to me?!!!

Bit late now I know but maybe it'd be better to ring them & say your "friend" is getting ESPN for half what you're paying, and could you have the same deal?
I've heard stories before from people who rang Sky to cancel part or all of their service because they couldn't afford it or another service was cheaper only to be offered their existing package at a much discounted price.
If you don't ask, you don't get =]

id say you just got the lazy chap!

Most companies that offer subscriptions like that have a retention team that your passed onto when you try to cancel anything and they try to keep your custom... you prob got the chap that was hungover lol

got it free for 4 months also back when the footie season ended and in
fairness im not sure id have taken it for half price as the ufc is the
only thing ive watched on it since

the 30day notice for cancelling isnt set in stone
i turned off sky sports immediately but it was
only when i threatened to knock off the lot that
they waived the 30day notice nonsense

I'm with Chorus, and i had the basic package, which was about 10 channels, plus an extra €15 a month for espn. I then found out that the premium package (ie all channels except sky sports and movies) had espn free, and it cost the same as I was paying for basic + espn.

Rang them up and said I wanted to cancel my original package and take the premium one, and they started talking about being locked into the one I had, cancellation fees etc., so I told them they could cancl the lot (I get broadband from them too), cause I was sure Sky would do it for me, 15 mins later i was upgraded
