Just watching this now, gotta love Channel 4 and their docs.

I knew a good bit already about Amish culture but I'm really impressed with the teens involved in this show. I'm glad it's showing a lot of the positives that exist within Amish communities, that said, the women saying they are there to serve men etc just negates a lot of the good points.

I loved when the main girl left the mosque and said 'It's strange that there are so many faiths, how do you know which is the right one?'. The seed has been planted :p

I never knew about that 'rebellious' period Amish boys were allowed have when they hit 16..interesting...

I thought they came across rather well. They seem more content than most of the "normal" people they met. Very interesting alright.

I knew a bit about the amish before but not about the whole "Women bow down to men" thing,I liked the idea before that.
Done a bit of googling and found out there's an amish community in Waterford too!

I live in Waterford and I often see members of the Memmonite community around the city - they're recognisible by their distinctive dress especially the woman. I think they sell bread at a market in the city centre on a Saturday morning. My aunt bought some garden furniture from them 10 years ago and it is top class craftmanship.

I'm looking forward to next week's programme. The guy who's 23 who has been on this "gap" year since he was 16 while trying to decide whether to commit to the Amish way of life, I get the impression he's alot more worldy wise than he's letting on! The girls striked me as way more conservative than the boy's - I can't imagine them knocking back the can's with the boy's in Kent next week :D

I knew a bit about the Amish alright. Programme was quite good, the looks on their faces when the London kids showed them their dancing for the 1st time was amazing. But even though they weren't sure about it, they showed no disrespect or judgment to the London gang really.

In a way, they have a great life, no crime or hatred or poverty in their communitys..

I liked when one of the girls said the reason they don't believe in make-up and fashion is they believe men should be happy with what God gave us & it's what's inside that counts, not the exterior..

I'vee watched the first two episodes. Based on their experiences so far, they probably think that backflipping is a popular and ubiquitous pastime in Britain.

I think you'll find that you are mistaken. They are just backward.
