We're over halfway through the year i'm just wondering whats everyones Best and Worst Wrestling match so far this year.
My Favourite was Cm Punk vs Rey Mysterio (the one punk won) & the Worst was Vince vs Bret Hart,Lethal Lockdown (featuring a Comedic Masterclass by Ric Flair) or any Diva's match you care to mention.

It's between Angle/Anderson and HBK/'Taker for me. I'm leaning towards Angle/Anderson because HBK/'Taker wasn't different enough from last years to stand out more. Angle/Anderson was a masterclass with a super hot crowd. Bret/Vince for me was certainly the most disappointing.

Agree with all this. Can't decide netween Angle/Anderson and HBK/Taker. Probably leaning slightly towards the latter. Have seen little or no Japan stuff so can't really comment on that. KENTA/Marufuji was decent.

Worst was Vince/Bret - what a steaming pile of sh*te from start to finish.

    Agree, Angle/Anderson was epic.

Tyler Black vs Davey Richards from ROH Death Before Dishonor VIII for me. After that it's Taker Shawn 2.

I'd also be torn between Angle/Anderson and Taker/Michaels.

Jericho/Bourne was a good one too (the PPV match) but I wouldn't say it was quite as good as the above two.

Angle/Anderson hands down. Styles/Angle back in January would be one deserving a mention too

    taker/ hbk for me

since all you are saying angle/anderson is great ill have to have a look at it even with my hatred of anderson

Angle and anderson by a mile

HBK/Taker for me. Angle/Anderson was a notch below for me. Should hopefully get to watch Tyler/Davey soon to see if it matches the hype.

Its a Masterclass by Angle, why he's one of the greatest of all time.Taker vs Hbk was good but it was never going to be able to eclipse the one a year prior(both men were so worn with injuries it wasn't possible) but I wouldn't take anything away from either they're Outstanding Wrestlers They're just not in there Prime but years of Injuries affect Anyone.

I'm going to go with Angle v Styles on Jan 4th with Angle v Anderson a close second. Vince v Bret was the worst.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,964 ✭✭✭Podge2k7

I agree with the people who said Angle/Anderson, great match.

And yea Bret/Vince was a load of crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,997 ✭✭✭Degag

Did people really think Bret and Vince was going to be anyway decent? It was what it was. Bret beating the crap out of Vince at Mania. If we thought there was a possibility of that happening a year ago we'd have been delighted.

Taker and Michaels for me, Superb rematch, although to be fair i don't watch TNA so didn't see the Angle match but i concur that he is an excellent wrestler.

No but it was significantly worse than I thought it would be and FAR too long. The fact that it got nearly twice the time Mysterio/Punk did is a crime. It was just so tedious and mind numbing.

Agreed. When Bret first teased the Sharpshooter, they should've just ended it there. But we got another eternity of stalling and crowd-killing. Bret sitting down, taking a breather was really saddening to me. That and wearing jeans to wrestle -- at least wear something you haven't been wearing for the last two months! I bet he walks around town like that! It didn't help that the match had the most contrived and unnecessary pre-match storylines in recent memory.

Gosh, I'm surprised (and happy) to see TNA getting their due in this thread. I have other matches but they don't stack up against Angle vs AJ or Angle vs Anderson, which got the time they needed and deserved :)

I'll just also put in Bryan vs Jericho on NXT; Batista as great matches, but not MOTY.

Gotta give an honourable mention to The Guns/Beer Money from Victory Road - not quite to the epic standards of HBK/'Taker or Angle/Anderson but it was one hell of a tag match.

I thought their match on iMPACT the next night was better! Definitely, just a constant tag-team-move spotfest. Friggin' awesome. But ya, great performance. The two had a phenomenal tag match at the PPV before B4G 2008; was amazing.

It was Turning Point just after BFG but yeah, great match but I preferred their Victory Road match this year - the crowd made The Guns tag title win seem like something special like it should have been. It was a great moment.

CM Punk vs Rey at Mania was great. No match has really made me mark out just on a wrestling stand-point. It was normally just a spot or two I really enjoyed.

Wow. That actually sounds like an amazing match. I never had much time for Shingo until I saw him take on Morishima in 2007, and was blown away entirely.

But reading our post might make me sad, as I am pretty sure that match will not be on the PPV/DVD as its within the 90 day nonsense.

Dream match of mine actually. It might make it onto a DVD but not air on a PPV maybe?

Pity no-one else will see that, except if someone taped it on their mobile.Read a lot of People who were there said it was the Match of the Year.Yes Vince Danielson can do that actually wrestle but as Paul Heyman said Wrestling is a Dirty Word for You.

Ya, it was a dark main event but it may go on the dvd. The event as a whole, beside the dark main event, is also worth watching; a solid show from top to bottom.

It was the first dgusa show i've seen and i was blown away!

Bit of a bump here for this one but I have a new candidate for my match of the year. Shingo and BxB Hulk hair versus hair match from Dragon Gate. Just caught up with some of the heavily hyped Dragon Gate matches and this really does exceed the hype for me. All round great match. Amazing heel and face work and a great finish.

I suspect more than a few people will throw the Beer Money - MCMG match into the mix also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,491 ✭✭✭thebostoncrab

BxB Hulk vs. SHINGO hair vs. hair match from the July 11th Dragon Gate show. Two of my favourite guys putting on a masterclass in wrestling that is not only my favourite match of the year so far, but one of the best matches I have seen period.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

I watched that BB Vs Shingo match, and while I definitely enjoyed it, I would not be as mad about it as above. Maybe had I seen how the feud developed I would have a greater opinion of it.

Ill try and see it again, but this time, not on youtube. For some reason I can never enjoy a match fully on that.

    SHIIIIIINGGGGOOOOOOOO!!!

    Looking forward to this.

2010 is becvoming a bit of a dark horse year for good matches what with HBK/Taker, Anderson/Angle and MCMG/BM.

I am hopelessly oput of touch with pretty much everything else though.:(

The Guns V Beer Money best of 5 matches have been awesome

I have watched most episodes of RAW & WWE PPVs in 2010 and for the life of me can't think of too many stand out contenders.

I suppose I'd go with Taker vs. HBK as it was the only one i was really invested in as a lifelong HBK fan. I didn't think it was as good as last year for the simple fact that YOU KNEW at some point HBK was going to kick-out of a Tombstone Piledriver with the arms-crossed pin before the match ended, and this was the real mark-out moment from the WM25 encounter.

I didnt really like the "mercy killing" style ending either, but the fact that im analysing it in such detail means it was a good one and a match i actually cared about which is rare these days in WWE

Anderson and Angle in the cage. Great payoff to a well built feud.

    Bumpedy bump.

I was just thinking, perhaps for 2011 we should have a running match of the year thread which will be stickied. This way we will not have to be raking our brains come Auguest trying to remember some match on Impact from January etc. It will give us a nice reference point to go back to as the year goes on. We could even have a match of the month poll from the thread, in order to decide what the PW forum MOTY will be.

    What ye all reckon?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,242 ✭✭✭chordtype

It would be a good resource come December that's for sure. It'd also be a good opportunity for some people to see some matches that they wouldn't think of watching.

I've got another candidate for MOTY, bringing my choices this year up to about 6 or 7.
Chris Hero vs. Akira Tozawa from PWG's Battle of L.A. Night 2. Great BigManLittleMan match with an awesome finishing sequence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

As long as people don't start posting 3-star matches at MOTY candidates. I'd be down with a running thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,234 ✭✭✭ayatollah

ok just spitballing of the top of my head here

    angle v Anderson
MCMG v Beer Money ( can we count the whole series as one? cause they were all savage)
Taker v HBK (though i would agree last years was better)

struggling to come up with other "5* matches" but i really enjoyed big red v orton in hell in a cell

the elimination chamber erm cant remember everyone but i think HBK, HHH, Seamus, Jericho, Morrison......

+ 1 i think they also had a match at mitb ppv one of the best feuds of 2010 for me

for all the bad crap said about rey you gotta give him credit especially for this feud and his feud with del rio he is one of wwe mvps of the year

Yeah, it was a very good match and Cena did a much better job carrying Wade than Orton did but by no means was it a MOTY candidate. Though I suppose that's the wonder of Pro Wrestling.

Angle Hardy had a couple of stunners this year as well. Giving Anderson (Lockdown), Kaz (Slammiversary), Hardy (iMPACT and No Surrender) and AJ (Jan 4th iMPACT) their best matches this year, I imagine that makes Angle the wrestler of the year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,380 ✭✭✭geeky

Can I nominate Kip James and Deborah 'Pinky' Simons? Or is there a separate feud of the year thread?

Ya the match was class. Obviously there wasnt any 890 degree splashes or flaming thumbtack piledrivers but the level of stroytelling by the two of them was unreal.

No doubt, plus shorter yet still great iMPACT! matches with Wolfe, Hernandez, Red and Anderson. The guy has been incredible this year.
