So who's got the oldest MP3 player?

I was just browsing through some very old threads (2004), it was interesting to say the least! It was around the time when iPods first became popular, and many people were buying their first mp3 player. There were some massive fans of the iRiver/Creative Zen who were hell-bent against the iPod, some interesting discussions there!

At the time, I avoided iPods because there were so many anti-iPod enthusiasts here. I first had a Creative Zen Nano, which died for no reason just after the warranty expired. Then I got a Creative Zen Micro, which died for no reason within a month of the warranty expiring. For some reason I don't understand, I got a Creative Zen Microphoto which also died for no reason within a few weeks of the warranty expiring! So after 3 years of this crap, I eventually got an iPod Touch, couldn't be happier with it. I had it for 2 years (and it didn't die for no reason!) and I got the iPod Nano last week.

So has anyone still got one of the old Creative Zens/iRivers/etc, 6 years on?

Have a 40GB RCA Lyra. It's the size of an old walkman and needs to be plugged in to work but it's a beast of a yoke.

I had a Creative Muvo (128mb) cost me about €140 at the time I think. Thought i lst it and went bought another...just as I got home I remembered where I left it. A lot of money spent on 2 mp3 players with very little space.

Then I moved onto the IRiver - 20Gb for €299 at the time - expensive as well.

Now I'm still using my Creative Zen Vision M, calss piece of kit for music, videos, photos the works. Have a Speaker Dock for it as well....these are rare and hard to get these days.

Would love an Ipod Touch 64gb but can't justify the expense at the moment.

I have that lying around somewhere from about 8 years ago. I think I coloured mine in red and black during the early teen years :D

My advance from that was a Samsung YP-T4 (suprised I remember the terrible name), which I won from Coke's summer music competition thing.
    samsung-yp-t4v-256mb.jpg

Two years of use later, I won a video iPod from Coke again, 80gb. That got rockboxed, then after getting two and a half years service from it, I let a friend put on a song and he dropped it. Firmware section of the hard drive was fecked, so after turning it off it wouldn't load up again. Tried repairing it with parts from an old broken 30gb video, but it never ran for more than a day.

Now using a rockboxed sansa clip+, and I can't see myself changing any time soon. When 32gb microsd cards drop below €50ish I'll swap out the 16gb one :D

Still have my 128mb Medion MP3 Player from Aldi. Cost €79.99 at the time, and had a few cool features like 2 headphone ports, a loud speaker and a Memory Card slot.

Then about a year later got an iPod Mini and was my first introduction to the Apple planet.

    Blast from the past indeed!

My present from my parents for the successful completion of the Junior Cert back in 04!

Soon after replaced with the Creative Zen Touch which in turn has been replaced by iPod Original 16GB and currently rocking a 32Gig iTouch!

Loved the iRiver for the fact that you could listen to and record from the radio..!

    creative-creative-zen-touch_66585.jpg

great device, also where the ipod stole its trackpad from, there was legal issues over it but never stops apple:P

If apple didnt have such good PR and itunes, this should have taken over. Quality device

I retired my 6Gb one of these from "portable" use less than 2 weeks ago; it's still working but the case is damaged and the switch could fall out, but connected up to a speaker dock fulltime it's not dead yet! Great little device which served me well since Dec 2005.

I replaced it with a Creative Zen Mx 16Gb which is pretty good (I like the plug and play interface as well as the ability to store photos and film clips) , but I miss the trackpad of the Zen Micro!

I had my 340 stolen on me about a year and a half ago, but it'd still be going now if I hadn't. Took out the 40GB drive, put in a 120GB one, and upgraded the RAM to take the increased space, and put Rockbox on it.

Nothing else will ever compare. It played every ****ing format, mic, radio, video, games, audio editing software with Rockbox, I loved it.

I hava an iriver T20 with 512MB which is about 5 years old.
Still use it but mostly for its brilliant line-in capability (recording vinyl etc.) since I got an itouch for Christmas last year.
