I watched Atonement on dvd recently and absolutely loved Kiera Knightley's green dress. Just wondering about everyone else's favourite dress from the movies ??
This one definitely gets my vote

Not the best pic, but I think that it really captured the atmosphere and extravagance of the film!! Plus, it's beautiful!

It's not actually a movie but this is just the nicest dress I have ever seen.

I loved it so much that I had it planned as my debs dress for two years! Can't find a better picture of it than this tho!

this might be slightly better! Awful photo of me tho!

    SO many!!

    wind_frock.jpg
Technically a dressing gown, albeit an extravagant one only fit for a rich southern belle, but it totally sums up the sexual tension and Scarlett's behaviour in this scene, and Rhett quite literally sees red before he roughly grabs Scarlett.

    dvd_room02.jpg
    dvd_room01.jpg
Lucy Honeychurch's dress for the cornfield scene, just sheer Edwardian, strait laced beauty, look at the lace panelling at the front! Lucy as the young English girl on her grand tour makes a marked contrast with the Italian girls of her age, the colour white obviously indicates her innocence and naivety and theres hardly any flesh on display, the bloody hat is a bit ridiculous. Picnic at Hanging Rock has equally beautiful dresses!

    Catherine.jpg
That dress. That film. Still being imitated today.

    arts-graphics-2008_1185197a.jpg
Every solitary item of clothing Eva Green wore in The Dreamers. I've been searching for the perfect velvet dress ever since I saw it a few years ago.

    Gilda.jpg
Rita, Rita, Rita. Remember when one could still ooze sex appeal in a long dress? Just on the right side of sexy.

    louise_brooks0024.jpg
It never ceases to amaze me how that dress stayed on, but if I had a figure like Louise's I'd wear dresses like this should any occasion arise.

Hmmmm ... will have to think about this one but just wanted to say that I love the idea of this thread!

Fab thread OP! Can't wait to ogle the results :) My winner is the tango dress worn in Scent of a Woman. Mainly because I adore its stunning simplicity. Or maybe it's the beautiful music that accompanies the scene it's worn in (or the fact that the actress is totally gorgeous)
Overall, I just think it's elegant and classic -everything a dress should be!

I really liked some of Abbie Cornish's dresses in Bright Star...

Can't get a shot of the one above from the front, but it was lovely!
Very visually beautiful film overall. That shot amidst the lavender is amazing.

I love Helena, but some of her real life wardrobe choices are questionable. Still, it makes me love the woman more. The Helena Bonham Carter archives always make me giggle!

Not all of us wear dresses. :)

Almost everything worn by Edward G Robinson in film or real life. In the film Little Caesar he goes from street hoodlum to gangboss and his colthes get better and better as the film moves along. Others of his era, like Cagney and Bogart always seemed to have a slipshop appearance but Robinson was a true fashionista in real life, a very dapper gent indeed.

Oooh so many! One of my favourite films growing up was Strictly Ballroom, Fran's dress at the end for their big finale is spectacular. I also loved how her 'plain jane' character was actually plain and not just a gorgeous girl who scrubs up and suddenly becomes a supermodel...

    strictly_502.jpg

    StrictlyBallroom.jpg

Not a movie but my first girl crush was on Audrey Horne from Twin Peaks... I wanted her entire wardrobe! I also tried and failed to tie a knot in a cherry stalk with my tongue for years!

    audreyhorne.jpg

    audrey-horne-twin-peaks-4244754-400-316.jpg

The 1961 West Side Story is spectacular... I just realised that Richard Beymer (Tony) played Audrey Horne's dad in Twin Peaks, weird!

Hitchcock's heroines have also had some fantastic outfits. I loved Kim Novak's ice cool blonde look in Vertigo

And possibly my favourite is Grace Kelly's Paris dress in Rear Window

Sorry Old Goat, did not mean to exclude the men, especially such immaculately turned out ones :)

Dolores, I absolutely LOVE the black and white Grace Kelly photo, what a dress ! Brings back so many memories of rainy Sunday afternoons spent watching old movies with my Mam, curled up on the couch with a big bag of sweets. Happy days.

Oh my god I can't believe I forgot this till now! When I was little my sister's favourite movie was the lost boys and I so desperately wanted to grow up to be Star! Her outfit's were amazing I would've killed for that glittery gypsy skirt! Such a cool movie too. Sorry for the sh*te photos best I could find unfortunately :(

Love, Love , Love the dress worn by Kate Hudson in How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, ditto the Keira Knightley Atonement one.

Personally I love all of the dresses worn by Rachel McAdams in The Notebook, especially this one:
