Jeez, what happened to Alistair Brownlee? He just fell apart at the end, stumbled over the line.
Still - exciting stuff. It would have been great to see the two Brownlee brothers take first and second.

So he is human after all. After Athlone I was thinking he was bionic...!

Looks like he completely bonked in the last half kilometre. He was jelly-legged and meandering crossing the line... Hope he's okay.

Yeah, though I thought it'd be unusual for a professional to do that, especially over a race that only took an hour and forty minutes.
Still, the faster you run the more your energy comes from sugar instead of fat. So I suppose it's a reflection of the pace.

He cut his ankle in T2 also which probably added to it.

Not nice to see someone crossing the line like that.

I just caught a glimpse of this on news, reminded me of the famous ironman Sian Welch finish. Did he actually lose out on the line?

He was contesting 1st with about 500m to go. He disappeared off the TV monitor for a few moments and eventually stumbled over the line in 7th or 8th I think.

As soon as Gomez kicked that was it, mentally he broke down at that point I'd imagine.

People are amazing in how resourceful they are. Even when the body runs out of fuel and reserves of fuel, the mind is still powerful enough to follow our desire to get us there.

I was in London this weekend and got to see some of the Paratriathletes competing. Awesome efforts from all.

Was chatting to one of the guys in work about Brownlee's finish this evening, checked it out on BBC's website and it was crazy stuff! We talk about marathon runners hitting the wall, but that was what really hitting the wall is like...

"...in a battle for fourth place." That was hilarious.
Obviously those women were amazing athletes and all that. But in that video they just look ridiculous. They crawled on the ground like a pair of babies in a battle for fourth place. I'm filled with both admiration and pity.

Just caught up with this. Exciting finish. Pretty impressive bonk by Mr Brownlee, if that's what it was. Just when Gomez pushed at the end he looked pretty grey, like he was going to faint. He tweeted later that he needed to eat more pies :D

Good to see Gomez back on form too

Pretty impressive swim from brownlee also, last 600m without goggles

Finally got a chance to watch this .... insane  . I'm convinced someone at the pool told me brownlee had won with an amazing run, and it all looked like it was true till the end! Nice to see Gomez back, awesome work from jonathan... but painful to see alastair finish a race like that though.
