Galway Wedding Venues

We are torn between the Glenlo Abbey and the Ardilaun Hotel for our wedding reception - I heard the Glenlo are sticklers for finishing up early....we love the venue but are afraid it might be too pristine for having the craic! The Ardilaun is lovely and better value but a tad claustrophobic....
Any advice/experience of these venues greatly appreciated!

I would go for glenlo abbey. Iwas at the ardilaun for a wedding recently & not impressed.
At Glenlo abbey also a few months ago & thought it was a much more enjoyable & unique experience.

Never been to the Ardilaun for a weddinbg but the Glenlo is Overpriced and I have been to 2 weddings there and on both occasions the food wasnt up to scratch. Food very disappointing for a 5 star.

I stayed in the Ardilaun recently and it was awful, unless you are fan of the smell of bleach. Avoid.

Ok maybe it was just us but for our wedding the food was to die for, no one went hungry and everyone loved the food.

Out of the two the Glenlo is far better. We've been to weddings in the Ardilaun and its not even close to the glenlo on venue or food.

    I'm new!

I have heard the food in the ardilaun might not be great, remeber when we went to them and ask about quality of food etc, they agreed their had been some reported cases of bad food! asked them did they do taster dinners they said they didnt! so we didnt risk it.

Glenlo is very expensive but looks really nice i think and i thought they were good.

We ended up going with the Meyrick! Good food, but disaster for organization of a wedding. they all about the money and dont really care about you on the day.. great food though and thats a big thing, but not the venue if your bride wants to be treated like a bride! we had so much hassle

ive been to 5 weddings in the ardilaun and 1 in the glenlo. Never had an issue. Never blown away with the place but always had mad craic. They are pretty relaxed. Wheras glenlo was a bit wooden.

so if it was me id be in the ardilaun.

    Thanks guys!!!

See, we absolutely loved the The Glenlo, but hear they're pretty strict on finishing music etc bang on one, and with a lot of people travelling to our wedding, accomodation price was a factor too...

It's a toughie but we've gone with the Ardilaun - fingers crossed!

Was at a ball or two at The Meyrick and altho the place is so fab, the food was awful so it wasn't even in the running really. Hard to have your dream wedding when you're on measly wages :(

On another note (ha ha), any one ever seen the bands Horizon or The Prickly Pairs at a wedding??????
