So we really want to start playing magic. We already have an average understanding of playing the game and people on the boards here have answered many of our questions already.

Our main concern is money. I've seen this FNM thing and was wondering how much it costs each time.

Also is there anywhere u can meet up with other gamers to play magic casually? Preferably during the day if its in Dublin as we do live in Naas so its a good deal out like.

If u could answer these questions I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance.

    M

ok so FNM costs 30e a head each night! then sometimes they do a draft afterwards which costs 12e. but purely for the game time and the cards you get its almost worth it

and yes a lot of the time ppl will be playing in the shop (Gamersworld just beside Jervis Street). people play there during the day, and im sure they'd be happy to have more guys in :D

Jesus 30e is alot of cash for your average 17 year old.
Probably start going when we get more into the game ^^
    Thanks anyway

FNM 30 euro!! Wha? when did this start? any time I was there it was either a draft €12 or a sealed deck €20 [it's 5 boosters isn't it?]

Where are you getting €30 from Kev?

Dropping in to gamer's world is probably your best bet for now.Once the colleges are back [well mid-august] there's always a Game of casual in UCD.

Ah I think he's talking about draft and sealed deck. Not individually. I hope your right man cause thats much more affordable.

Oh another question if you can answer it, how much are the intro packs. And do the bigger 2011 ones cost more?

If I remember right the starter decks are €18,those were a full deck with land and a sealed booster.I'm not too sure about the M11 one's[I'm out of the loop on this new set] but I'd say €20 should get you one, they are great for starting off.I'd recommend it if you haven't played before and haven't anyone experienced to show you.

you can PM me if you have any questions by the way

unfortunately my prices are accurate! for as long as ive been playing in Gamersworld FNMs have been 25e, as its 6 boosters, not 5. and since M11 came out boosters have gone up to 4.50e a pack, so they've introduced a bit of prize support and brought the price up to 30e for sealed! Draft is 3 packs and is 15e with prize support.

Alright. Irish prices are so much higher then everywhere else. Like its 9e for the intro packs everywhere else.
And FNM is only like 15 everywhere but ireland.
Damn Irish economy. Hobbies are so overpriced.
Dont know if my friends will get in to it now...

yeh sadly everything is pretty overpriced here :( but as i said earlier if you just go into the shop over the weekends, there will always be ppl just sitting around that are willing to play casually

it depends on the level you want to get in at,if you got to an FNM or two,you can pick up the cards the other people leave behind[most of the guys only take the rares]
Which is grand for casual,it's only as you get competitive the cost really rises.

I got my dad to stop into the shop yesterday(he works in the place right beside it ^^) to ask prices on the 2011 intro packs. The guy in the shop told him €12.50. So maybe prices went down or something.
Which makes sense cause an €11 increase just cause its Ireland is just ridiculous.
If anybody's just stopping by the shop and could ask in case my dad asked for the wrong thing I'd appreciate it muchly.

If not I'll probably head down in bout 2 or 3 weeks.

They have like just drafts on a thursday night?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,641 ✭✭✭kev_s88

yep but the drafts on thursday tend to be just for regulars. like the lads will text the ppl whose number they have (ppl who come in all the time) but im sure even if you come on a thursday you could give your number to the lads for future reference

Thats fine ^^ I wasnt planning on playing drafts til I get a bit more into the game cause it does seem to take a bit more skill to a point...correct me if Im wrong...

well off the bat it doesn't,just remember which way to pass and your sorted. But it can go all the way up to pro level, just for your own information.

Sorry if I got the numbers wrong on the decks,I haven't played magic in about 4 months and even longer since I bought an intro pack[I thought they were quite bad in the last set]

I'd say,if you just show up on a thursday at 7 you'll get a draft,I've never heard of one not being run.Bear in mind it might be a bit awkward[it's the same crowd usually]but tell epople your new and most of the guys will be pretty patient and help you along.

thursday probably not the best night to jsut show up as i was saying above. purely cause the first people told about it are the ones who Ken texts. and the drafts nearly always fill up after text people. last week we actually filled up 2 drafts with text people.

And yeh Wolfbrand drafts are probably seen as a tougher element of the game. it just takes a lot of practise and knowledge of the cards to know which ones to pick in a draft and to know to not just go straight for the rares. but you get used to it after a while

Yeah thats cool. I'm busy for the next week or two with volunteer work and parties and all that but I'll probably get into magic as school starts.
