I'm thinking of selling my 2006 Dark Blue Metallic BMW520d Saloon, 49,500km, full service history, very clean. Anyone got any ideas on what kind of price should I be looking for? And, is it better to sell privately or through a dealer?

    Wanna sell quickly, then €15,500.

Try selling private for at least a few weeks.

    The 520d's seems pretty popular.

Don't make the mistake of going in too high on the price

Look at the sebistes and go in at the low end.
Remember dealers give warranties and the like so take that into consideration.

Bring in the car to a few places to see what they will offer on trade in.

Looking at carzone I would say around 17000

I'd ask for 20K if it's as mint as it sounds. Sell for 18-19.

Someone I know has a similar model and spec - priced down to €14800 at the moment I'd buy it myself if I could afford it!

as noted above by some, prices on carzone are generally overpriced for all cars. There isn't a snowballs of getting 19 or 20k.

15k would be my guess to sell it in the near future as a private sale.

Going to give it a go with a couple of dealers, see what they'll offer. Then see about going private. Will post selling price here.

it's more of a metallic wine? they look ok in the flesh.

Decent price, but as you say advertised as an msport when it clearly isn't probably puts people off, as does high tax.
Why anyone would pick a 520d when for a few hundred extra you could have a 530d I'll never know though..

I sold same car 3 months ago for 16k, se with all extras, serviced and 1 yr warranty. 20k for privat sale??? it'll still be there at xmas!

    Thank god someone said it.

20k indeed, problem is people are generally horified by the amount the pride and joy has dropped, especially lately.

Let us all know what the dealers offer.
You may find someone with a few bob on here in the current economic climate. Sorry :)

How can a 530d that was sixty grand four years ago now be worth 16? At that rate they depreciate more than citreons!

A car is only worth what the market commands. Always was, always will be.

Yes a loss of 44k in 4 years is quite a lot, its now only worth 25% of what it was new!

If it keeps losing value at that rate, it will be in the bangernomics thread in about 18 months! :)

Have spent the day looking at websites, prices from 15,000 to 25,000 for 2006 520d's mostly with more mileage on then mine. Understand the overpricing on some of the sites, but 10,000 of a difference??

Many reasons (have you not read any newspaper or been on boards/motors for the last 3 years?) :)

The car is on the old motor tax system, there is a new model out, newer models are much cheaper new because of ultra low emissions for that size car (hence low VRT) and there's been a bit of a downturn in the economy. Anybody else fill in the bits I missed here :D

in that case a 4yo ferrari 430 must be worth 20K...............

Comparing the depreciation of a mainstream mass manufactured car to that of an exotic supercar makes your post look - silly :)

And the claim that "this car is fully loaded with every bmw extra" - when it clearly is far from loaded (just leather and auto it seems). Reckon those wheels are 17" too, not 18".

Having said that, if I'd seen the ad when changing car recently, I'd definitely have taken a look....

Am I right in reading that that's a manual 530d???

    Saleproof...

Edit: Nevermind, interior pic shows an auto 'box

Well, went to a couple of dealers with my car. Offered 15,000euro in Dublin, 14,500 down the country. Advertised it on Carzone, not too many calls, but found a buyer - 18,000euro. Very happy with that. They're getting a great car too.
