Advice - Permanent brace coming loose.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can clarify this for me. I had extensive orthodontic work on both upper and lower teeth, under the public health scheme. Now, I have a retainer for my upper teeth and a permanent brace (not sure if that's the correct term for it) for the lower (it's basically a metal line of links from across the back of my canine teeth and incisors). Three of the links have recently become loose, one is sticking out and as a result, I think one of my teeth is beginning to move. I was discharged about three/four years ago. Will I have to get this fixed privately? If so, what price should I be expecting?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi

hard to say what it will cost. If the orthodontist replaces the retainer privately they will then take responsibility for the teeth staying straight and any further problems

If the treatment was done privately then this would all be included in the fee but you have had the treatment throught the HSE. Just phone an orthodontist,, look in phonebook or ask your dentist to recommend one and take it form there. dont leave too long at the teeth will move!

Mohjesus, what was the outcome? Did you seek private treatment? Costs??

My permanent brace just broke today, six years since I had it fitted and was discharged from the HSE Orthadontic Unit in Loughlinstown. I'm 23 now, I was 17 when I had it fitted. Kind of freaking out, I'm so particular about my teeth after wearing braces for 2+ years!!

I called the HSE Unit just there and they said they can't help at all, can't even refer me to a private orthodontist.

So, I have an appointment first thing in the morning with my actual dentist who doesn't specialise in othadontistry but is going to have a look at it and advise me.
