    Hi,
I have a sony vaio laptop model vgn-ns30e
I want to open up the bottom case, but if I do open it will they know if I don need to make a claim against the warranty in the future, Is there a way to open it without them knowing/voiding the warranty. Thanks

Warranties differ across the board with all manufactuers, and for different regions. Best way to find out is directly contact sony.

A general rule of thumb is RAM and HDD upgrade will not void warranty as these are classed as User Upgradable. However if you cause damage changing these components the warranty wont cover it or the componants.

Opening the case certainly wont void warranty for Sony or any of the big manufactuers. (ive sent back acers, dells and sonys with no problems after my own diagonsis.)

Off the top of my head only E-machines (possibly gateway?) have specific issues with case opening voiding warrenty and these have strategically based stickers covering a neccessary screw to prevent this. Ive heard stories of these stickers being broken - even if not caused by trying to remove it to unscrew the screw - the warranty being void...crazy!!
