Hi, I hope someone will be able to help me. I have a flight from Vancouver to Newark midweek in mid august on Air Canada, it leaves at half 10 in the morning. I have a connecting flight to Dublin with Continental Airlines due to depart exactly 1 hour after I arrive in Newark. I am on holiday in Canada at the moment, Does anyine know whether I will make it? I am travelling on my own with 1 suitcase and I am prepared to run(im a young man, so no prob there).

any help/tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    I would say that's a bit tight.
Do you have to change terminal?

My girlfriend made a 5 minute gap between connections today and last week I made a 20 minute connections (both delayed). We were in the same terminal for both flights though.

It's a big airport and I don't think you'll be landing in the same terminal as your connection but I think you should make it provided there's no delays. There have been mad thunderstorms for the last week that have caused mad delays.

Find out where you land and take off from and google getting from one to the other and you'll have a better idea.

edit: The Dublin flight goes from terminal 2 generally gate 120-123.

You have to change from Terminal A to C. If you're on the one ticket, and your luggage is checked through it might work out if everything is on time - if you've to collect luggage and re-check it - well, I would highly doubt it.

thanks for the replies. Looking on the websites Air canada are terminal A and continental are terminal C, so i prob have to change terminals i think, unless the canadian flights into the US are not counted as international??

Its booked all on the one ticket. So far I seem to be getting thats it IS do-able thats what i needed to know.I'd prefer to know if i didn hav a chance so I could change flights r sumtin.

    keep em coming!

If you are flying from Canada into the US then I think you will need to collect your bag and clear customs before putting it on another baggage belt and boarding the next flight.

I don't think that is achievable along with a terminal change in 1 hour, even if everything was to go according to plan. Is there an option of an earlier Vancouver to Newark flight?

Vancouver has US Immigration and Customs pre-clearance if memory serves me correctly, so luggage should be checked through.

If it's one one ticket dazgib, then it's a slight possibility it'll work ok. At the end of the day, as you booked on one ticket if something does go wrong, you'll have to be looked after by the airline anyway.

I've seen legal connections at Newark as little as 45 minutes (but they were in the same terminal) and even that I'd consider unrealistic. 1 hour between terminals - well yes, it might work if everything is on time/early. A small delay will scupper your plans however.

OK, thanks all for the replies.Did a bit of research, There is US Immigration and Customs Pre-Clearance in Vancouver where im departing from. I cannot get an earlier flight out of Vancouver because Air Canada only have a 12.40 flight out of Vancouver each day. However, It is operated by Continental, who are also my connecting flight to Dublin so I guess Im gonna be in the same terminal??

Ah, well that's pretty vital information you missed out on ;)

If it's the Continental flight you're on, with an Air Canada codeshare it will arrive in terminal C. That will simplify things as it is the same terminal as the Dublin flight arrives from.

If your flight is booked as a 'connection' (i.e. not just you booking random flights and hoping to make it) then your connecting airline is aware of this and will normally accomodate a delay.

I know this becauuse I take connecting flights all the time and have waited on planes numerous times for passengers coming in who were delayed. Only last week I spent an hour on a plane in Frankfurt waiting for connectors coming in.

Im not sure if its policy or anything but if you booked a "connection" then Id be 99.9% sure you'll get it (unless you have a major delay).

If you've just booked 2 seperate flights, i.e. you have to pick up your luggage at the connecting airport and check in again then thats completely different.
