anyway I've been thinking of doing this serious and I'm unsure what clothing is needed and what type of clothing is bad and to be honest the cheaper the better :)

If you buy nothing else, some good padded shorts are essential, believe me saddle sores are, well, sore.

    the cheaper the better :)
Welcome to cycling - you clearly have a lot to learn:D

Padded cycling shorts are pretty essential, and your "wardrobe" should ideally extend to a cycling jersey, base layer and rain jacket. There are plenty of options - check out your local bike shop. If you do a search on this forum, you will also find plenty of recommendations covering a wide range of prices

Once you have the basics, you may want to consider specialist cycling shoes (ideally ones that clip into the pedals, but you would need the corresponding pedals then)

Chamois cream, padded shorts look the biz but without chamois cream they aren't as much fun as you'd like to think.

Trust me, my first pair of shorts, no one told me about the need for cream, I found out the hard way that it is essential.

    Shorts is a must

Check out the wheelworx shop in foothill in clondalkin, they have a great range of clothes

Try them all, make sure you're happy with the thickness of the pad,

The santini ones are great IMO

If you look around, you can get funny coloured santini ones but with the brand gel pad for under €100

It sounds slot, but at the end of the day. It's your balls you're spending the money on

Jerseys can be bought for cheap on eBay and the likes

Oh, and good padded gloves to

Best advice is to by the most expensive you can afford . wiggle is a web based shop that does some good gear theyy have their own brand dhb which is good.

    basic kit
Shorts lycra( don't wear anything under these )
jersey or running shirt that wicks the seat away cycling jerseys are handy as they have a set of pockets on the back
this is ireland so some sort of rain wear ( pocket rocket is good and folds up small )

    cycling shoes cleats , pedals
all depends how serious you get but the above should sort you out at the start

+1 on the dhb from wiggle. I've got 2 pairs of shorts, shoes and a rain jacket, very happy with them all and the prices are very good.
