OK i don't really know how to describe this but.. I bought an Iomega 1.5tb Harddrive in America last year and in the last 2-3 weeks i notice that sometimes if i'm playing music on my iTunes the harddrive crashes and i am having to restart it before it can recognise any of my music files again. I know its not the best description but if anyone could guide me as to what the problem is it would be great. thanks!

do you mean you have to restart the xternal HDD itself or the pc / laptop it is connected to? from what you have described its just as likely that the issue is with the computer rather than external drive..
