Took the Megane to a Renault dealer for a timing belt change, got a call saying that the belt did not need changing, 1 year to go but there was another problem.

The slave cylinder was leaking, I was shown the clear fluid around the underside of the bell housing and I was advised to change the clutch as well as the plate may be contaminated and the car has 40,000 miles on it anyway.

The killer is the near €1000 price tag, parts around €400 the rest labour as the slave resides inside the gearbox, I may be wrong on this though.

    Does this sound right?

    Car is a Megane 2006 1.5dci.

Clutch kit from eurocarparts is €205, slave cylinder will be another €50-€75.
Labour shouldn't be more than 3 hours to be honest with you.

Ring a renault indy or dealer up north and get a few quotes, as the car is still driveable.
