    Hi there,

I just installed a motor on my satelite setup and i am trying to alingn the dish using a compass and a satelite meter to Atlantic bird 3 at 5 degree's west.I think i'm roughly pointing in that direction and have got a good signal.

I done a scan on my reciever and have picked up about 90 channels but I'm not sure if these channels are from the bird in question. Can anyone tell which satelite these channels are from ?

It looks Swedish (or at least Nordic) & I'm having a stab at Thor 5 (Satellite) :)

make sure dish perfectly square/aligned on the motor arm axis.

Tell your satellite receiver to go to 30W. Strong signal.

Align, then tell it 8W and tweak.

Make sure you have your own co-ordinates in correct!

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Actually i think it is Thor (0.8w) that I'm on right now.Am i right in thinking that the SID numbers are unique ? or could they be found on a number of different satelites ?

Only unique on a transport stream, maybe.
I did have a DVB-t and DVB-c encoder. I had to "make up" SIDs :)

I think he is on the east side of the Island so 5West is what he needs!

I usually set a usals motor up like this:
Enter correct long/lat settings in Usals menu.
    Goto 0 or X
Move whole motor assembly on mounting bracket until 8 west comes in
Select 8 west then on satellite menu (Dish should move a fraction)
    Re align on 8 west
Tighten bolts and then move to 30 west and check signal.
move to east satellite eg 42 east (Or in my case 36 east is the furthest i can see east)
Check weaker satellites (1 west, 26 east) and tweak LNB skew/elevation of dish to bring these weaker birds in and the stronger birds should still be ok.

    Good luck mate.

Yes I am on the east of Ireland (North Dublin) But that doesn't really matter now since my receiver just died on me, :(

It actually died as I was outside realigning it.I was reattaching the coax back onto the lnb and the dish started moving on it's own,Nearly knocked me off the trestles i was satnding on.
I went back into the house and the receiver was just cycling through on and standby and it's been like that since.Tried reloading the firmware through the serial port but no joy, keep getting an error message.

And to think I've spent the last three days trying to get the motor/alingment settings just right, And I was very close to getting it right too.Than this happens:mad: This is my first satelite setup by the way.Only bought the equipment last week.

Anyway I'm going to send it back and get a better receiver instead.Any ideas on what to get in and around the 300 Euro mark.Preferably a box that is well supported with updates, easy UI,HD,PVR,works well with a motor etc etc.

By the way the box i have is a Solomend hd pvr 800 also known as Sathawk hd pvr 800.

Thanks for the replies so far guys,I do appreciate it!

Never connect LNB cables while box is plugged in. You can get a discharge via the Box's PSU filter capacitors to earth which can damage box CPU.

Try a factory reset in case it's just confused.

Technomates are great boxes, make sure you get a box with a network port as you never know what you'll do in the future!
