Session Musician Career - How To

    Hi all,

A while back when i was in between bands i was interested in doing some session work but had absolutely no idea how to get started. Im sure there are others in the same boat so wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get going as a session player. Personally, i think a problem for me would have been that, while ive been playing bass for about 15-16 years and professionally for about 9 years, its the only instrument i could work in at the required level. I can play the guitar at a half decent level and keys/piano at a basic level but nowhere near good enough to provide a service for them.

So what do you think? Need to be multi-instrumentalist? How do you advertise your service to the right people? Places like Boards or are there better avenues?

    Just interested in peoples opinions.
