Loud music

Can anybody tell me what my rights are regarding the putting up with loud music in my garden every time the sun shines. I have already gone around to the house concerned on 3 occasions. BTW the house is not even directly behind ours but quite a bit away. The last time I went around I was verbally abused and told "take me to court", by a very agressive fat guy with black teeth, and told not to knock his door again (may I add I'm 8 months pregnant:eek:). What can I do?? What are my rights? I don't even want to sit in my garden now as I can't relax with the music blaring. The music usually starts in the afternoon and continues til evening. Why can't these people just use headphones, a suggestion I made to the above the last time I called. It's driving me mad. Thanks for any advice/help.

their entitled to have music loud in the daytime but a second after 10pm ring the guards that will quietin them.i got a court order against old neighbours to quietin um.they sold up 7 months ago but the new neighbours are even worse,at least once a month they come home from the pub on saturday night and play loud music till 3 or 4 am,they even have the cheek to be ignoring me and the wife now since we had to call gardai on them.im seriously thinking of getting a court order against them aswell but goin from what ive heard the judge mite frown on me since this is the 2nd court order im seeking and also the fact that its new owners.it sickens me how these people have little or no respect for anyone but themselves these days.

simply go down to your local district court,go to clearks office, explain to him u want to seek a court order against neighbour for the reasons you outlined earlier, once he sorts out a date they,l then be brought to court bye summons, and you have to prove your case to the judge thats its a hinderence to the quality of your life.not sure your chances of winning if the music is during the day,im sorry to say.ps.try and get another few neighbours to show up at court and back you up.ur chances would improve 10 fold then.this should be ur last course of action and going from my experiences you mite just try and sort it out bye approaching them some day when their not blasting music and explaining your side of the story.hopefully they mite understand and their not like what ive to put up with.

Thanks, but there's no way I'll approach him again, not after his threatening behaviour the last time. Will try to get more neighbours on board

Can they though? I was under the impression that the gardai could ask someone to turn the music down but have no power to force them to do so.

it's a courtesy call, nothing more or nothing else, which amazes me when the complainant abuses you down the phone when you don't sort it out....

I am having a similar problem to the one above, except the music/noise happens from 9pm onwards. I want to take it to the District Court, but am afraid of the complaint being thrown out and making things worse. Is it worth seeing a solicitor first for advice?

Also, what is the going rate is for a consultation with a solicitor these days? (I've essentially no experience dealing with solicitors).
