    Hi there,

I lived in the US for a number of years and need proof that I did not receive a criminal record while I was there as I am starting a job working with children.

I rang the US embassy several time and either they don't answer the phone or fobbed me off to their website, which I cannot find any related info to my query.

Does anyone have any experience of applying for this or how I would go about doing it?

    Thanks in advance

I haven’t had this experience BUT as a suggestion have you tried going to the local police station? They may have someone there to help you. Or at least give you a number to phone?

    Hope it helps

As far as I know you just apply through your local garda station for garda clearance and they do all the work!! That is what I did for scouts!

    Hi

I just happen to know the link because I applied for a visa abroad. - although fortunately I didn't actually need to get police clearance. It sounds like a lost of hassle!

    Have a look here:
    http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm

It will take at least 3 months.

The FBI will provide you with a rap sheet to show you don't have a criminal record. It's also possible you will be required to provide individual police certs for the states you lived in - you can obtain these from the police department of any state where you resided. You should check this requirement with whoever is asking you for the cert.
