There's been a dramatic drop in temperature and a lot of the flowers have that "autumn" look. Is it too soon to prune at this stage? It was so warm early on (May/June) has autumn arrived a little earlier than normal?

You could deadhead plants and roses, but its a bit early for pruning. Some spring flowering shrubs can be trimmed back around now. What plants are you talking about?
