Registering for free upgrade credit (meteor payg)

If i buy an upgrade phone from my brother who has not yet registered it as an upgrade can i then register it for free credit on my number? or can it only be registered to the number given by him on the meteor website at the time of purchase?

You should be able to get the credit once you register the imei, its like what they do with gift packs.
