Have my iPad a few months now, knew that the book store wouldn't be open until it was officially launched in Ireland. Doesnt seem to have opened today.

Anyone know when it will be opening? All I get is the public domain books.

    no idea!
Download the Kindle App anyway...Pretty much any book you can find on Amazon you can dload. iBooks just isn't any use at the moment...I'm sure it will be eventually, but for now, Kindle is the business!

Ever since the first ipad announcement iBooks was only ever advertised on the apple website as being for the US only. Given that the Irish iTunes store has only recently got movies and doesn't have tv shows yet, I'd expect it will be a long wait before iBooks comes to Ireland.

Inmho, the iPad does many things right and I love mine but it's a very poor ereader.

I couldn't use mine as an e-reader alright.. it can't compete with the Kindle for easy reading on the eyes:

But it's an absolutely superb for comic's / graphic novel's:

The selection seems to be limited to the Project Gutenberg library. Still have a use for the old US itunes account it seems.

Anyone have an idea of a timeline for when the Irish iTunes may get iBooks?

I don't know, but given how long it took for us to get films, I'm not holding my breath.

Oh and I have to say, I remain very old fashioned when it comes to books. I much prefer printed books and can't see myself ever buying ebooks.

If you are really desperate for iBooks, you could just set up an American iTunes account, source a US iTunes Voucher and purchase them through the US iTunes Store.

If you have a US itunes account, log into the ibookstore in the US, Lonely Planet are currently giving away Best in Travel 2011

Its handy as a free glossy book as it demonstrates how bad the i pad is for e books
