Toshiba laptop - black screen

My Toshiba Satellite laptop is not turning on. It's out of warranty but has only ever been used for about 30 hours so still almost brand new as far as I'm concerned. The power button will turn on the laptop and some lights come on the keypad to show battery charge, plug in etc but not the actual power button light. Also it takes a few seconds of holding the power button down to turn it on or off instead of working instantly. Nothing comes up on the screen, totally black. I've tried taking out the battery, disconnecting from power source and holding power button down but no change. Keys don't work except a little light when I press the FN key. It appears it is not a power supply or battery problem. If there's nothing I can do myself can anyone recommend a decent repair place in Dublin? Any idea of costs of repair?

try connecting the laptop to an external screen as a start.

having to hold the power button for a while to turn the laptop off would suggest that it may be booting past bios but you just cant see it due to screen issue

Ok I've googled how to do it. Will give that a go and hopefully it'll keep me going for a while but fear I'm still looking at a repair job for screen anyway. Ta
