My desire will not connect to anything other than the 3g network, regardless of what settings I choose. If I set it to gsm only I get no signal, when I then go to either search or auto the networks it says i can not connect to this network at this time.

    Any ideas?

3 only have a 3g network, they use Vodafone for roaming etc. Make sure you have roaming enabled (doesn't cost you more). What exactly is your problem? You want to disable mobile internet? (hold down power -> turn off mobile internet)

If you have 3g connection but it doesn't seem to work then toggle airplane mode.

Sorry maybe I should have been clearer. I have a Hero and a Desire, I am with Three.

When I am out of 3g coverage, my hero falls back onto the Vodafone gsm network. Of course it is identified as Three but Roaming.

My desire will not do this, even when gsm only is chosen from the options. It will connect to the GSM network for short periods but will not function.

It is the same with an O2 sim I have tried in the Desire.

I have updated the radio baseband and even rooted the desire and installed custom firmware. Problems still there.

Maybe I have a bad GSM radio?
