Paint code for a w123 plus need help from w123 owners

I took the engine out of a 77 w123 this eve.

The guy that owns it wants the engine bay painted the original colour as someone has sprayed it matt black.

He rang a main dealer and was given a paint code of 881 but it apparently doesn't match up with any paint...

Its an off gold/yellow kinda colour.

I have the chassis number here but not sure if I should post it up publicly. Will PM it to anyone if they can help.

    Thanks

I'd say thats it, the outside has been sprayed a brighter yellow as well so can only see the bits that were missed on the bulkhead.
Engine was a dream to take out, only 11 wires and 4 of them were for the heater plugs!

Either way it should be here somewhere.

Code 881 is - in german - Silberdistel Metallic, and falls into the grey colour group.

I can't help out with the chassis number you PM'd me - only a Merc dealer could use that. I've PMd you with something that may help out!

might be a bit late as you prob are already sorted. On the 124, there is an aluminium panel with a load of numbers on it on the bonnet slam panel. The paint code is one of those numbers.
maybe someone can confirm if its the same on the w123?

heres a pic robbed from the interweb

There is a small plate on the front of it some numbers and a some square holes punched in it.

I asked someone else and got the paint code 881 again, but my mans painter insists that it is not a valid paint code.

I'm after getting in touch with a body shop I know and the lad there told me if it was metallic then 881 was a valid code.

I think that where the other guy must have slipped up is that it was resprayed with a non-metallic..

Thanks for everyones help. I'll throw up a pic when it is back together

If you're still in trouble, I can mix up a small batch of whatever 881 is on my system and see if it looks similar.

I printed off the car from bijapous' link and the owner is happy that it is the original colour.

Car is going for a full respray now instead of just under the bonnet as the owner wants it back to original.

Apparently he bought the car as a ex-demo in 77 and sold it in 85. It made its way back to him a few weeks ago and he bought it back

    Hey guys, in bother again.

The car only was finished recently and when I put the engine back in I have some missing wires I think. The guy who painted it took all the loom back from the interior and put it back but I have no ignition. I think he may have left out some of the loom..

Where does the power supply for the fuse board taken from?

I am assuming it is from the point on the starter where the main supply comes from the starter. There is only one point on the positive terminal on the battery and it runs straight to the starter.

The stop on the pump is vacuum controlled and yer man has mixed up the pipes on me, do they go to a solenoid on the passenger wing?

Finally, can someone post a pic of the hinge assy on the bonnet, it is no longer locking in the upright position and I can't figure out how it is set up.

    Thanks guys
