    Hi wgsten.Brilliant link.Really interesting and informative.Have you fished talt from a boat or from shore?.I have noticed a nice stretch that brings you a good distance out into the lake and seen people camping/fishing there.Thats where I'm going to try.I have fished talt before from the far end of the lake(where you can drive down right beside the lake)and caught some lovely small trout.I'l be up there first week in august.Might see you there.All the best!

    Yes. They are still there.

    The WFD survey in 2008 found trout, perch, char, eels and 3-spined sticklebacks.

    @the hamo,
    Looking back through my notes to the last time i fished on Lough Talt. It was late evening and i was fishing a sedge pattern (balloon cadddis) as there was sedges/caddisflies about. The previous time i was fishing wet flies : bibio, kate mclaren, claret dabbler, mallard and claret and sooty olive. All flies i used were sucsessful to some degree, in sizes 12/14.

    I was at Lough Talt the weekend before last. Conditions weren't great and I'm new to fly fishing so I didn't catch anything. I had one take but didn't land him (my fly had broken at the hook).

    Trip report here: http://waterling.com/post/907320974/trip-report-24-07-2010

    This is the remains of the fly that sparked the take. Anyone recognize it?

    If it had a blue body with a silver rib and that wing .... some sort of hair wing blue doctor, basically a salmon fly tied in a smaller size.

    Black Doctor hairwing

    Substitute blue for the black body parts ....

    Coolwings, thanks but it didn't look like that at all.

    I've had a look around online and the closest I could find is teal,blue and silver.

    My fly used a similar shade of blue, but there was blue was in the tail and the wing was different as can still be seen in the remains.. It had silver wrap all up along the shank of the hook.

    they probably took it for some sort of fish fry....

    Hi folks.I fished talt last thursday using two rods.One with a floating line and one with an intermediate.I tried everything,different flies,depths etc but it just wasn't happening unfortunately.I didn't see a fish for the 4 and a half hours I was there.Thats fishin' for ya!If you were guaranteed fish every time you went out there would be no fun in it.I will definitely go there again though.It's a lovely place to spend a few hours chilling out and maybe,even catch a trout.

    I was over at Lough Talt last week. The weather was just too bad for fishing. It was wet and wild and i waited to see would it clear but no luck on that. I will try next time i am over that way again.
