    Hey all,

NCT is booked for Monday and the engine warning light has come on on my 98 Avensis Petrol. Oil was very low (oops) so filled her up but light is still on. (Oil light wasnt on fwiw)

Anything I can do to reset the warning lamp (to at least confirm if it was the oil) or do I need to hook it up to an OBD2 thingumy?

    cheers!

Get it checked with someone who has diagnostics.

I'd be far more worried about an issue with the car than the NCT tbh.

Is it possible to pick these kits up in Halfords or the like? Ive seen them on ebay etc for cheap enough?

The oil was below min so Im assuming that was it, no problems with the car otherwise.

Note that its a 98 not an 08 Avensis...

98 Avensis has an ECU that can be checked, there was a way to get the error code by doing a short in the fuse box somewhere, that used to work on my 97 Carina.
Anyway the O2 sensor going was a common problem with Carina/Avensis, could be that but you never know till you get it checked.

If you disconnect the battery for about 10mins you will reset the ECU.

An engine light will not affect the NCT as long as the car is running ok.

I disconnect the battery last night (but not for 10 mins) and took out the ECU fuse and it was still lit :(

Dropped it into a mechanic today and he reckons is probably the lambda sensor alright. Also turns out both tie rods are broken

They are both common jobs on the your car, you could do both yourself if your any way DIY inclined. If memory serves the O2 sensor isn't cheap to buy but the tie rods are only a few euro
