I need a decent helmet but so far I've been unable to find one I really like. I don't want to spend crazy money but the cheaper ones look pretty pants mostly.

I had set a budget of €60. Then I found this:

    (in black & white)

Any others I should be considering for same or less money?

For pretty much the same money the Giro Hex is VERY popular, I have one and it's grand.

+1 on the Giro Hex - the GF has one and it looks well and seems to be decent in terms of ventilation and weight too. Have seen the Giro Phase too and it's a nice lookin lid. Have a Xen for MTB rides myself (truffle hunting around these parts I believe) - would recommend but only if you can get it on sale, and properly reduced at that, IMO there's not a big difference between the Hex etc and it other than style

    i use one of these,

more a bmx, dirt helmet, light as a feather, i just prefer the style, i find the vast majority of helmets look awful - the hex is supposed to be a good helmet though!

Awww, but I had the No and then the full stop....

(I'm just not a fan of the p!ss pot type skater helmets, at the same time each to their own)

Still do check out the Hex, it's a good lid

Cheers yeah I might go for the hex I'm sure it will be a safe choice. I don't think the skater ones would suit me really..

I bought a MET Kaos Ultimate Helmet recently but due to bad weather I needed another one for commuting so went for this one:

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=32924

Fantastic Helmet and I strugle to see how my other one was so expensive, pretty smart looking as well. more information and pictures on the MET website but excellent value for money.....

Id imagine Absorption, that helmet will probably just break and youll take a harder blow - if you ever fall, good helmets absorb the impact and live to tell another tale!

I've just seen that the Giro Hex comes in matt black, that's much better, I was not too keen on the other colours, plus its cheaper through Wiggle! Nice!

actually the silver Giro hex one is the nicest when seen in the flesh, tthey have them in cyclesuperstore tallaght, tried em on didn't like, on another note i have one of these for sale, brand new => http://www.adverts.ie/232043/bikes/giro-flak-mtb-helmet-large/

    http://www.halfords.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_11101_catalogId_15551_productId_756473_langId_-1_categoryId_212467

Available in Coolock and liffey valley apparently;)
I'd feel bad wandering into the local bike shop to try out a helmet then ordering from chain reaction, but I'm sure halfords won't mind...

EDIT: be aware that CRC and Wiggle ship a sufficient volume of goods to Ireland that the must charge VAT on helmets (no UK vat on helmets I think, we have 21%) - so the actual wiggle price before postage is 65euro.
Halfords price - 15% (if you know anyone with an AXA discount card) = 81yoyo
