Blatant cheating at World Juniors

I've hinted before at my belief that nearly all Kenyan male distance atletes at World Juniors are overage and it is a well discussed idea on athletics forums.

After the 10k the other night, there is now serious evidence about it.

The winner was Denis Masai (running a phenomenal 27.53), brother of Linet Masai. Check out this IAAF article from 2009 where Linet speaks about her younger brother Denis. In it, he is identified as being 22!! As stated this is 'before he broke into the national team' and thus before it was necessary for him to lie about his age.

The 3rd place place finisher in the race appears also to be overage. The below link is to a thread on the Letsrun message board. A poster there remembers competing against WJ bronze medalist Paul Lonyangata in 2006 when the Kenyan was 16 (as stated in the article). His birthday is now listed as Decemeber 1992 which means he has changed his age since making him 13 at the time of the US race!!

This behaviour makes a farce of the whole competition and really adds to how great a performance people like Paul Robinson are putting in to make the final of a distance event.
