Your iphone is synced with your old pc.
When you connect it to your new pc you will have to break that sync to add more music and videos. This will wipe your iphone of any music and videos it has.
If you have all your music from your old pc on an external hard drive i suggest you keep using that, start itunes go to edit >> preferences>>advanced tab in the media folder location(i think thats what its called) simply change the "c:\.....\username\...\itunes music" to the location the music is stored on your external drive.

apart from losing your music your iphone will be fine when connected to a new pc, it will be able to backup the device and update, but as i said you wont be able to add music until you sync it wiht the new laptop.

    Thanks Robbie,
So that means if I sync my ipod or iphone to a new PC or laptop I lose everyting!!I've thousands of songs on my ipod.Surely theres thousands of computers breaking down everyday with peoples music/apps stored on their itunes??And then they have to lose it all??Seems crazy,no wonder people give out about Apple!
Is it a fairly straight forward procedure to save all my itunes to my external hard drive, like you suggested?Im not great with computers!

if its just the fan on the old pc then most likely the hard disk drive is still intact with all your old files. If you're not confident of taking out the drive and putting into the new tower then ask where you buy the pc to do it, its a 5 min job tops.

Your old drive will show up in "My Computer" as another drive other than the C drive.

Apple support site will give you the best advice on how to import your old itunes library with the new pc install.

    Thanks gerkeo,
Im hoping its just the fan thats either broken or needs fixed but its still a fairly old PC.My bro got it for me a few years ago.Just would hate to lose all that music that took me ages to put onto ipod but hopefully i wont lose anything!
