Ringing around for tyre prices

I spent a good hour today phoning all the local tyre centres looking for two tyres for the sisters car. I can only assume that most Irish people ask for the cheapest tyre and dont care what make it is, nearly everywhere i phoned had answered the same, "205/50-17, yeah there €65 each", my replay being what make are they, usually met with "i THINK their Sunny (or some other obscure rubbish make)".
I know the size isn't that popular, but most of them only stocked either complete rubbish, or a few premium brands at €140+. In the end one place had two Federal's, which aren't brilliant, but suitable for the sisters type of driving.

Do most people just ask for the cheapest and go for them?

I know this is the motor forum so most posters here wont be buying rubbish.

I called into my local Ford dealer for mine last two times. This time they were cheaper for some obscure brand. There are sometimes special offers on tyres in different fitters. Generally I'd call in and se them in person.

I was ringing around for tyres recently. It was 50/50 with yeah we got cheap generic tyres and know brands down.

The majority of people don't realise how important tyres are, these are generally the same people who don't believe in servicing etc.

Yep I just got 4 Toyo Proxes T1R's from them for 250 less than the cheapest tyre place could supply and fit them. Cost me 50 to have them fit so I saved 2oo notes versus the cheapest place

I got mine fitted for 15quid a corner in north dublin. Fitting is probably cheaper in other parts of the country. I put 4 falken fk452's 225/55/16's on my car for 350quid with camskill. Best quote elsewhere for similar quality tyres was 500quid. Best of all is the selection of tyres you can get.

OP if you are in dublin give either Pat Cliffords or Phoenix Tyres a call. Both far cheaper than Fastfit etc.

there is lots of fellaz with mobile fitting advertised on gumtree where they charge 10e for one tyre with balancing included so u dont even have to move from your home to have them bought and fitted and nobody in ireland wont beat the price at all

in D15 where i live there is plenty /more than 5/ of garages where they will more likely kiss your hand than rape when u want them to fit your tires, its money for them so where is the problem?

Have used camskill alot & prices are good but with sterling not being quite so good to us now, there is not a huge saving unless you are buying top end stuff.
