Hi,

My wife and I are flying into Ryanairs Barcelona "Girona" in early August. We've hired a car but no place to stay. We were hoping to spend 3 nights in northeastern Spain and 4 nights in the south of france, stopping in Montpellier in the middle for 3 nights to visit family. Anyone got any suggestions of where to stay? Ideally we're looking for nice quiet spots by the coast so we can chill by the beach, budget is a bit tight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Lots of posh Barcelonoans have weekend houses here! Small town, winding streets with boutiques and the like, good restaurants.

Has a restored castle with a city between its wall, its expsensive to stay in there bit the surrounding city is lovely!

Also look out for places where you can hire a boat to take on the Canal Du Midi, fun and relaxing way to spend the afternoon and see things along the canal. The canal is perfectly calm, no need to have used a boat before!

Check out this small 'traditional' French hotel between Perpignon and the Spanish border:

My Wife & I drove to Spain last September and stopped over at that hotel.
Its not luxurious by any means but we were glad to have someplace to rest overnight.
Its within a small few kilometres of beaches, shopping, etc and there's several quaint towns/villages nearby, as well as Perpignon just up the road.
For a mere €80 in total (high season) two people get B&B plus an evening meal with a caraffe of wine thrown in.

I'm only recommending it because i'd have no hesitation in staying there again myself.
