Serving Disprin over the counter in bars

Over in Galway with a few pals the other day and popped in for some liquid refreshments.

Unfortunately, my pal from the U.S felt a bit worse for wear from the previous nights festivities. So what does he do? When ordering his beer, he asks the girl if she has any Disprin under the counter? She didnt.

I never thought of bars as serving (or containing) anything thats good for you. Is this something that is done in some places?

I wouldn't say so..I guess if someone needs a disprin then they're not drinking so they'd be bad for business!

When i worked in a bar, we were asked not to give them out as favours either, big reaction liability.

Where did you get the notion aspirin's good for you?

I've often bought drugs in Galway pubs but never off the bar tender

i'd have thought it's not legal for a bar/company to distribute any kind of pills, in the same way that a company is technically not supposed to keep pills in their first aid kit.

anyway, forget disprin, Andrews is a life saver when you're worse for wear.

I guess the idea could be good for business. Im nearly always fine about 30 mins after a disprin. Can then go straight back on the lash

I did actually get pain killers from a pub last year! I asked on the off chance and the barman said it was grand and that they were asked quite a lot!

Nope, pubs and hotels won't do this.
If a person has a bad reaction you'd be sued for compo.

When I was night porter I've had people looking for these every morning after a wedding, same baxtards were shouting drunken abuse at me at 4am
No way, I'd be sacked if we gave out painkillers

The barrister would rip you to shreds
"So Mr barman, you've no medical training but thought you could hand over tablets to a customer??"

Yeah, we also have a first aid kit in case someone cuts themselves!

It's illegal for bars to sell any painkillers and against the policy of any barowner with half a brain to allow their staff to give out painkillers as a favour. An allergic reaction and the bar is shut down for good, the owner jailed.

However, they WOULD be allowed a small amount of disprin for any occupational first-aider on staff to administer in the case of a heart-attack, should they deem it necessary.
