Need advice on succession act

Hi, quick question for any solicitors out there, im helping my grandmother with the estate of her deceased brother. He died intestate and she was the only surviving sibling. He had numerous nephews and nieces and i understand the estate will be divided between 8 different people, my nan and 7 nephews and nieces. Anyways i was with the solicitor last week and he said that the estate will be divided up equally between all 8??? Is this correct? I thought the nephews and nieces receive the share the parent would have been entitled to had they succeeded the deceased? There was 3 other deceased siblings who left children so it was my understanding that my nan was entitled to a quarter of the estate and each other quarter was to be divided among the number of children of each other brother,

any advice would be greatly appreciated, maybe i misunderstood the solicitor but i thought he said 8 equal shares, which somehow doesnt make sense??

We don't do legal advice here per charter. You've clearly had advice and are confused. Call the solicitor back.

You can access the Succession Act here - http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1965/en/act/pub/0027/index.html .

If you spend 10 minutes reading sections 66 - 71 you will find the Act is quite clear and easy to understand in respect of your question.
