Due in court tomorrow morning. 1st time up before a judge.

    Should I wear a suit?

Should I have a solicitor with me?

    Anything else I should do?

    Thanks

Save yourself some money and represent yourself.

    What are you up for?

    1. You don't have to wear a suit, usually a formal shirt and slacks will do. White on black, blue on black, etc. If you have a tie, wear it as well. Be clean shaven, and on your best behaviour. Once you don't look like the Usual Suspects in the court (tracksuits and the just-got-out-of-bed look), you'll do fine.

    2. For most minor road traffic offenses, a solicitor is a waste of money. It depends on what the offences are. If its for speeding or similar, you'll usually just have to take the stand and take a oath that you didn't do such a thing, or you didn't get the penalty notice, etc. depending on what the issue and your defence is.

All a Solicitor does is meet with you, ask you the details and most of your defence, and they say it for you, costing about 300 quid in the process.

    3. Sit near the front of the Court, away from the usual suspects if possible. Just think you're back in school again (follow the rules and manners this time), when called, get up and walk to the nearest side of the Bench and answer truthfully any questions your asked.

Worst case scenario is that you'll get the fine, and/or maybe a slight increase in it, but if you show respect to the Judge you'll get off light.

caught driving with phone and at the same time went through red light. Guilty of first offence. Going through the red light i disagree with. Was late paying fine so up before judge tomorrow.

You really don't need a solicitor. I agree with what Scan Man says.

And remember to turn off your phone ;)
