Hey. I'm 31 and in reasonable good shape. I used to run, I was ok and have recently being trying to get back into it. But I have a problem with sore knees. I work in a bar at weekends, so spend 20ish hours working. Now my knees are always sore and kinda clickey, you know when you move the make noise. Its fine for walking but I cant run for any length now. I never feel like running cause there always aching.

Does anyone know of any supplements or advice for how l can get my knees to be not as sore. Is there exercises or any way to rest them can help?

    Thanks alot

One dessert spoon of cod liver oil every day to relieve them - put it into friut juice so you don`t gag!!!!...
And check out your feet to see if your flat footed or something not aligned.

I would suggest going to a physio before you do more damage. And if you haven't ran in awhile i would recommend starting with a beginners program like this one over at runners world.

I would go see a decent physio and get yourself checked out.

glutasomen could cure it. Cod liver oil could too (and you shuold be taking it anyway). But my money is on gait analysis and maybe a good set of insoles. But the physio will be able to tell you, they can certainly fix issues like that.

Work on stretching and strengthening your quads and calfs.
Takes the pressure off your knees.

I'm having a similar problems in the last 2 weeks. Not just knee pain but lower legs in general especially the lower calf area on both legs. I used to be easily able to run 3-4 days on the trot (5-7 miles each time) but since I started doing longer runs at the weekends (10mile plus), my legs are sore all week and its Thursday/Friday before I'm fit to run another 4 or 5 miles.

Anyway suggestions would be greatly appreciated it. I have a half marathon on the August bank holiday weekend and getting out twice a week is not helping my cause!

A lot of knee pain is due to ITB syndrome so get stuck into the IT band with a foam roller and lots of stretching. And thats strecthing before and after training.
As for the sore legs, again foam roll the crap out of them before and after a run. If your legs are that sore take an ice bath after you run, they really do the job. I find the recovery tights to be very good aswell:

    Cheers

Definitely going to start giving the ice baths a go.

I wonder if stretching is the problem. Until recently I never stretched before or after runs. But lately I have been which has coincided with the lower leg pains

I could be doing the stretches wrong, but I doubt it as I’ve been practising a series of different stretches and routines 3 times a week while playing rugby for the last 10 years.

Ok, this really should have been shut earlier, but you're best option is to consult a professional to ensure the injury's fixed properly.

    Locked.
