Sorry this is probably a silly question but I just wanted to clarify. On the stats section of wordpress.com when it states your visitor hits, do referrers mean the individual visits to your blog and the views mean just what they looked at while on the page or do views mean individual visits to the site as well?

So if I have say 5 referrers and 12 views did the 5 result in the 12 or does it mean 7 other people visited that aren't logged in referrers section!?sorry

Assuming that the stats pages are the same for actual Wordpress.com blogs as opposed to self-hosted WP blogs running their stats...

Referrers do mean individual visits, but only those that came from a link on other websites, it doesn't include any organic links, such as people visiting your site directly.

However, it could be on either end of the scale, so in your case, those 5 referrals could have resulted in 12 pageviews from them, or you could've had 12 separate visitors each viewing one page. There's no real easy way to tell.

Thanks, I've installed Sitemeter on it now so hopefully that will be a bit easier to figure out!

If you real want to keep good track of your visitors, I'd recommend using Google Analytics (as it is free). It will also show the bounce rates (i.e. people clicking on a link to your blog and navigating away immediatly).

It's a handy tool if you want numbers!

From what I can tell, you can't use Google Analytics on any wordpress.com domains. The installation requires an upgrade to .org apparently, because to enter the analytics code you have to edit your theme's CSS, which is not a standard feature of WordPress... This is rather sickening and it took me ages to realise it. The standard stats are ok, but GA are so much better...

Search for the StatCounter.com plugin! Create your (free) account and the plugin inserts all the necessary code! It is better than GA in my opinion, as you can track a single visitor the whole way through your site! As well as all the usual stats.
