I just went into a vodaphone store and they told me that they are taking a list of requests for the iphone 4. I just heard that compub in cork were taking preorders. is this the same for the one in limerick? if so i might head down and pay for my new toy

Did they let you make a reservation in the vodafone store, or just sign you up to the e-mail notifications on news relating to it?

Is the compub for sim free? Last week they didn't even know it was going to be available sim free.

Why would it matter if it comes with a sim or not.

The iPad doesn't come with a contract. Any data plans are contract free.

    maybe your confused??

Compub have the ipad on friday and i would say VF are taking your name so they can mail you when they have more details... Requests does not = pre-order.

It matters quite a bit for the iPhone... given that getting one sim free allows you to use it on any netowrk with any plan you wish, rather than be locked into a contract with one company for 12-18 months...

Where the iPad comes into it is totally irrelevant for this topic.

I heard that apple were planning a launch reception, but they were a little fuzzy on the details.

Honestly though, I have heard nothing, but you can register for updates on the O2 site. I thought the release was scheduled for July though?

This thread is about the iphone 4 not the ipad, which is the mistake i think ye are making.

yes this is about the iphone. on a side note, the ipad sucks. it really does. I mean it works fine and its pretty cool, but it has no specific niche use. The only reason to get the ipad is if you have spare cash, like shiny things and are american.

what an utterly stupid thing to say. cars have no specific niche use as there are buses, planes and trains and your feet all do the same job. (soon to be) millions of europeans would beg to differ with you about the ipad but that's a different topic. i wish people would use the old maxim "if you have nothing good to say, say nothing"....

Your talkin' bo11ix man. I'm no 'fanboy' but I recognise a decent product when I see it.
Having used mine for over a month now, my laptop is gathering dust. Simple as that.
I don't have to wait for it to boot up, the battery life is excellent. I only use my laptop when I have some seriously heavy graphics work to do, and I use the iPad for all lighter graphics stuff. I read all my PDF magazines on it, all my books on it, it'll wipe the floor with netbooks for battery life on movies, its a great mobile music production studio. Its a great client photo portfolio. Its far lighter than a netbook (I've one of those I've to put up on adverts soon). Did I mention that its always on? Thats such a pleasure instead of waiting for a computer to come out of sleep or hibernate.
That comment about it not "fitting a niche" as you outline above has been parrotted to death recently and frankly, I'm sick of it.
Do you own one? Have you used one for more than 2 minutes? If not, go use one for a while and then make up your own mind, not parody what you read or hear elsewhere.

maybe i was a bit harsh, but im just a very expressive person. the thing is though, its essentially a stripped laptop functionality wise with some iphone features thrown in, and basically only has a web viewer function. (lets not mention ebooks)

I was just very dissapointed with the ipad because they put a very low resolution touch sensors on it. I was going to buy one if it was more sensitive because i thought this device would be a great creative tool (drawing)
unfortunately, graphic art is not a main feature, nor was there a pen released for it.

It was very surprising since the main logo for the press conference that was announce the ipad was made up of splashes of paint. I wanted it for photoshop and 3d modelling. It would be perfect if it had an exterior input function, ie allow it to essentially become an intuous graphics tablet (since 3dmodelling needs intensive 3d renering and the ipad doesnt have a graphics card.

I was in Vodafone today to preorder and when I asked the price of the 16gb she quoted how much the 3GS was and then said so expect about 620 for the pay as you go model. I expected 600 considering the UK price is £499 for the 16gb.

She wouldn't give me an exact date but she did say it'd be the first or second week of August most likely.

This is beyond a ****n joke.

The poxy phone is out in 8 days

There is no proper release info or prices

shops are saying they will have it august and September etc etc

i would fully understand if there was an embargo on info, but ffs the phone is out a month now
