Anyone any thought on league outrights for this season?

    I'm biased(:P) but I'm gonna have a Utd/Rooney double at 17/1.
Very big odds on the Championship, Middlesborough are 6/1 favourites, very good price, imo.
Serie A isn't great, Inter are 11/10 and next are Roma, Milan and Juve at 4/1. Then Fiorentina at 33/1, worth an e/w bet, imo.

    5/1 Liverpool winners (W/O top 2)

Good value IMO with the signing of Joe Cole and Jovanovic (and more to come) as well as them only really having the league to concentrate on. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them challenge for the title full stop now that Benitez isn't holding them back anymore. The main problem for Liverpool in recent years is the lack of a Cole type player to open teams up especially at Anfield. Problem solved.

utd wont be winning it. I think arsenal could be in with a real shout if they keep fab and get in 2 more players

    United 11/4

Lay them for profit when the odds drop.

    Easy money

Fancy Chelsea again this year but there is no value @ 13-8. They should have won it by a lot more last year as they won every Top 4 game plus Essien will be back for them too.

Forest look a decent bet @ 9-1 for the Championship.

Barca/Inter/Bayern should all win too as well as Ajax if they can keep Suarez.

A Goal in a Premier League match to cross the line and not be given fin_down.giffin_up.gif 6/5 odds_blue.gifodds_red.gif

This must be a great bet.
Am l right in thinking there is usually 2 or 3?

    nope

they've lost a few big players for them and I highly doubt Suarez will be staying because Jol was the main reason for him to stay 1 more season

    yea the whole season.

it seems too good to be true.

is there any chance at all a video ref could come in half way through the season?

Can't see Liverpool coming ahead of Arsenal, City or possibly Tottenham, tbh.
Hodgson has flopped at big clubs before and it will take time for him to make the team his own.

If Celtic ever go back over EVS I'll be taking it.Rangers have lost alot of players in Wilson,Thomson,Beasley and more importantly Novo and Kris Boyd and they look like they could struggle

Chelsea / Inter / Bayern / Real Madrid
All to win their respective leagues - €20 pays €360

    Chelsea / Inter / Bayern / Barcelona
All to win their respective leagues - €20 pays €309

Iv just done these two bets, hopefully Chelsea win the Premier League , Inter & Bayern should both win their own leagues while in Spain its a coin flip between the Barca & Madrid .

Is that 1-2-3 places? They have bought well and bulked up their defence with Kjaer and Friedrich to add to Barzagli.I think the main thing is if Dzeko leaves that 20/1 wouldnt seem so appealing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,516 ✭✭✭Hoki

Each way is 1/3 the odds for top 2 . McLaren is a decent manager as well & will have them well organised, if they can keep Dzeko i think its a decent bet .

    Who exactly have they lost?
Rommedahl (ancient), Kennedy (not good), Kerlon (never played)

They have some good players in Stekelenburg, Siem de Jong, Vertonghen and van der Wiel.

I'm sure if they got rid of Suarez they would get in yet another striker who can score around 40 goals in Holland (there have been a lot remember) or hope Sulejmani could do it.

They need to get rid of that donkey Pantellic though (Edit: he's gone, good news for them)

    Stekelenberg is very very dodgy.

Ive gone for 1 euro E/W patent on the following for the new season...

To win outright (places 2,3 @ 1/4 odds)

    Nottm Forest @ 15/2
    Swindon @ 14/1
    Bradford @ 10/1

Id expect another good season from Forest who played IMO (bar Newcastle) the best football in the championship last year. They have goals and pace in abundance in Earnshaw, Blackstock, Anderson and Tyson. Craft and creativity in Majewski, McKenna and Cohen. And decent defenders in Gunter, Morgan and Bennett.

Swindon lost Paynter to leeds, however in Charlie Austin they have the best striker in the division now, and even though Paynters loss is a blow to the goals count, Swindon did well without him for spells last year and still made the playoff final, losing only two of there final 23 matches. That also demonstrates their resilience. League 1 was pretty competitive last season but with Millwall, Leeds and Norwich promoted, the Robins who also play an attractive style of football, under Danny Wilson could be pushing for the title next year.

League two really is impossible to predict but Ive gone for Bradford to make a push for promotion next year, they have an experienced manager in Peter Taylor and a chairman AFAIK who has the funds to bolster the team. This one is more of gamble but ya never know...Said Id pick one team from the bottom division:pac:

I'm Backing the Old Firm to win the Championship

    GordonStrachanGettyJeffJMitchell.jpg

The Championship kicks off tonight with Watford taking on Norwich in another very open Championship. I have to admit my surprise on Gordon Strachan's men being 6/1 favourites here. He has bought half of the SPL to come down south and this will be a real acid test for all those who claim Celtic and Rangers wouldn't get out of the old first division and scoff at the standards of Scottish football in general.

However I shall be doing a little jig every Saturday that jeff Sterling tells me Kris Boyd or Scott McDonald hits the net. This side looks to have the right balance and Strachan is more cannier and a much better manager than many give him credit for. They have been backed from 9/1 into 6/1 for good reason and of the last 4 seasons, an 8/1 shot or less has won it on 3 occasions.

Gordon Strachan was once asked in an interview what field he thought his team was weak in, to which he replied "That big green one out there" Something tells me, he won't have that problem at Middlesbrough.
Notts Forest showed great spells last season and could threaten teh promotion places yet. Portsmouth may have survived administration but their squad is threadbare. Bristol City could be one at a big price and they'd be an excellent addition to the Premier League. Burnley lost all the magic once Owen Coyle left and QPR may have the supposed millions but no real sign of them in the transfer market. They may not be strong favourites but remember how weak Newcastle were last season before their 11 point winning margin

Verdict: Middlesborough to win Championship at 6/1
Bristol City to get promoted at 6/1

I will run through the other leagues next week but one quick mention goes Clyde in Scottish Division 3. They were relegated two seasons in a row amid financial trouble. They even had trial outs to find a new team but word is they have steadied the ship and at 5/2, not a bad one to stick into your selections for your season yankees

Could very well be wrong but I think uniteds price has drifted every season in memory for me (about 8 years)

Celtic @9/1 to win the SPL handicap.
its not a bad bet in itself, and i have heard that Bellamy is likely to sign for them soon

    cheers

Opened a new account with Celtic and they gave me a free 50e outright bet on the winner of the Championship.
50 on Middlesborough at 6/1 would be nice if it came in!

What do people think of backing Arsenal for the title? They are fourth favourites at the moment, if they sign a top keeper and centre back I think they can do it. Some of the young talent like Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere should kick on this year, Chamakh should supply more fire-power up front, Van Persie is fit again and Cesc is staying so he will supply the ammo. They were favourites to win it with only a few games remaining last season and that was with a retard in goal and without their star forward for most of the season (how would United or Chelsea have got on without Rooney or Drogba for as long?). Wenger must invest in a keeper though.

Shay Given or joe hart ;)

Both would be suitable but I can't see City letting either of them go to one of their rivals. Lloris is the latest name linked.

Wenger really missed the boat when Given became available.

If we don't sign a class keeper and a commanding center back we haven't a hope in hell of winning the league. If we do, we'll find a way of ruining it anyways. :pac:

I think that United have the capabilities to win every competition this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,658 ✭✭✭✭Peyton Manning

It's not a league winner, but I'll be backing Genoa to finish in the top 4 in Serie A this season for 1 pt @ 19/1. They've made some shrewd signings this summer - Eduardo (GK), Zuculini, Rafinha, Miguel Veloso, Luca Toni and they made the deal with Domenico Criscito permanent. Their manager is a bit stubborn tactics wise, but at 19/1 it's worth a small bet.

Ya right, they only won the CL Cup last year with practically the same team.

    1. Maybe they might avoid having to play Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher in central defense this year.

    2. Nani and Valencia are a year older/more experienced.

    3. Hernandez looks a good prospect.

    4. History has proven that all world cup scapegoats return to lead the club to glory, e.g Beckham circa 1998/1999, Ronaldo circa 2006/2007 - look to Rooney to repeat the feat.

    5. Due to the amount of players released by Chelsea, their squad is extremely thin and any injury crisis will have huge ramifications for their challenge.

    6. In recent times the community shield winner has gone onto glory.

    7. They lost out by a point last year despite being unconvincing at times, while Chelsea were winning matches 7-0

EDIT = Chicarito scored against the World and European Champions, albeit only in a friendly

Have taken two ante post bets

    Rangers
    Inter
    Bayern
    Porto
    Real Madrid
    Blackpool to finish last

    @ 72/1

    Top scorer for their teams

    Rooney
    Zamora
    Cole
    Doyle
    Defoe
    Agbonlahor

    @ 60/1
