Powering up problems

    I have a samsung notebook, I've had one or two small problems with it before but nothing major but now when I try to turn it on, all the proper lights come up and it appears to be alright however the laptop is completely dead, it makes no sound and nothing comes up on the screen.
    I did lend it to someone and I think she used it for hours on end, if that makes any difference

    Any ideas on what could be wrong? Any help appreciated

    Could be a motherboard issue.
    If the lights come on, that suggests that the power supply is ok.
    Have you tried plugging in an external monitor to see if any errors show there.

    I tried that and nothing came up on the screen, however you have to push a button on the laptop to display it on an external screen and no buttons on the keyboard are working so.
