BMW 730D service due

I have a late 2006 730d Sport, it has 130k miles on the clock (I drive alot!), it is due a service in one months time, all services to date have been via BMW dealer, is it time to get a non authorised BMW garage to service it (any suggestions on a garage?)

Given the miles on the clock, I'm tempted to go to a non BMW dealer but if I want to sell in 2 years time will a full BMW service history get a sale over the line?

I know it will be worth damn all then anyway but might get a few euro for it!

    appreciate your thoughts......

In 2 years time a full bmw service history wont make a bit of difference if you keep up that mileage. It will still be worthless.

Well if you are going to be selling it with about 200k miles on it, the buyer will be more interested in seeing very frequent oil changes instead of BMW history so if i was you, I would get the servicing done independently & I would also do an oil change about every 8 - 9k miles to keep the engine as sweet as possible. This could be done at home with an oil extractor costing you very little. It will be worth little though tbh

It wont be worthless !! The 730d will be the more appealing to anyone looking for a 7 series... Everything has a value but to say it'll be worthless is silly.
As for servicing i'd maybe bring it to a BMW specialist rather than main dealer. The majority of the cars mileage has been serviced by a main dealer which would be good enough in anyones eyes

I bought an 2003 Opel Vectra recently because it had a full service history with Opel which meant it was less likely to fall apart on me. well that's what I figured.

Anyway that was 2 years ago and never any hassle (bar fan inside car).

So id say make your last service in BMW if it means you can say it's always been with them.

I wouldn't automatically assume that a specialist will still be cheaper than a main agent these days. Have you priced both?

    cheers for the replies

I will only be doing 20k miles max a year so it will be while before I hit the 200k miles! It had 110k miles on it when I bought it in Dec 2009

Even if it had 150k miles next year on it, I'd be happy to get €8k for it, its a top spec (tv, fridge, sat nav, soft close doors etc) so someone will get a good car....

I bought it last year for £15k from a BMW dealer in Belfast where it had just come off a three year contract hire. I live between Dublin and Belfast so did not have to pay VRT so a sweet deal

just got quote off BMW main dealer in Dublin - oil service and brake fluid 292 euro (offer till end Aug) v's 400 pounds (475 euro) in Belfast... so there are a few silver linings to this recession......

altho I wonder do the dublin garages lure you in with the cheap service offers and then screw ya on all the other things that they then say need doing (air con filters, wipers, brake pads etc etc)

They will pretty much stick you for a grand if you let them.
Brake pads & discs which I think BMW change now as a matter of course on the larger cars with each set of pads cost an absolute fortune at the dealer.

Agree. I know a few toyota/vag mechanics who would be more careful and cheaper than a main dealer or as the yanks say the stealership.;)

If you sell it here the next owner will have to though.

What MPG are you getting on the 730d?

Always liked this car. Saw a lovely 06 one today.

Yeah they hired a mechanic recently who was supposed to be good and all, but he was fired after 2 weeks as he messed up 3 customer's cars. He could not even reconnect a water pump...The whole thing blew up when the customer came to pick up the car...

The other mechanics they have are excellent, Cearan and Sam.

No garage is perfect anyway, but is anything has been left over, they will take good care of you.

im getting 35mpg , i drive dublin belfast 2/3 times a week so v economical on motorway, set cruise control at 120 kph and it does about 45 mpg

interestingly when i rang the bmw garage in belfast and told them that a garage in dublin was much cheaper they dropped their price by 100 pounds! id trust them before Dublin garage to do it right and not screw me

i see McKeon BMW went under today, my mate used to get his 320d serviced there but had to stop as they would ring him each time he left it with them and they would then ring and tell him it needed x and y done, his bills were always double when they estimated!!
