Paint for wooden house?

    Hi all,

hope this is the right forum.

Our house has wooden panels along the outside of the house. The previous owner painted them with some sort of paint, which is now coming off in long slivers, especially where the panels have been exposed to sun and rain (mainly rain...). It was not a varnish, but "proper" paint by the looks of it, since the wood underneath is untreated.

What's the best course of action now? Can I just get some normal wood stain to treat the panels so that they don't rot? Can anyone recommend a good product, or is normal decking stain (Ronseal etc) ok?

    Any advice appreciated!

Any idea what kind of wood it is? Are you sure that the wood was just painted and not treated? Are there signs of decay?
If it's untreated pine you will have to strip off the paint and treat it with a wood preservative like Protim or Cuprinol and repaint it when the preservative is dry.
    Hope this helps.
