Anybody have any strong thoughts on premiership relegation this year?
I know it's very early and there is plenty of transfer activity to happen but does anybody see value in the 11/2 on offer about West Ham?

    PROS
-Brutal back four lead by the incredibly overrated Matthew Upson
    -Loudmouth intrusive chairman
-Overreliance on Carlton Cole to score goals with Diamanti set to leave. I think Carlton Cole should leave himself, but that's beside the point.

    CONS
-Decent midfield, addition of Hitzlsperger looks positive although I haven't seen him play for years
-Good young players in Collison and Hines
-Apparently have plenty of money for transfers

They have a very tough first six games so they are potentially even a back to lay after six games.

Also any thoughts on Fulham at 9/1?

EDIT: Here are the odds http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/relegation

West Ham could easily be relegated.
I don't think Fulham will, but they won't be flying as high without Woy.

I think the next few weeks will be crucial for them.I know you're looking for the value in the early price but it will all be down to who they keep and who they sign.Upson,Green,Cole and even Parker are way over-rated imo and if these are gonna be the spine of the team then they will be struggling big time but Hitzlsperger and Barrera are two good signings and if more follow, especially upfront I reckon they could do enough.

At the minute I think it'll be Blackpool,West Brom(although I do think Ibanez and Tamas will do well at the back and if they can keep the likes of Steven Reid fit they could fight all the way) and someone between Wolves,Bolton and Wigan.

I'd back WBA to stay up at this moment in time. For my money;Bolton.

Agree about upson and green but I think Cole is way underrated, suppose that's just a matter of opinion. If he was to go I think they would struggle bigtime- I think he could play at a higher level

As for the two new signings I agree they look fairly positive.

    Maybe the price is right

i think the three to go down will be:bolton, blackpool and stoke.

would you get good odds on this treble?

    No prices for trebles yet.

Its not as straightforward as last season I'd say.

Wigan are looking like they could be in trouble. Selling Bramble today and Figeuroa is being eyed up as well. They really are a selling club and are punching above their weight if you take their history into account. Might be their time.

Blackpool and West Brom should go as well.

Fulham are far too good to go down this season but are probably on the slide.

West Ham are probably not going to have a great season but I don't what would suggest they will have a worst season then last year seen as Cole didn't play many games last season and Grant is a better manager than Zola I would opine. If Scott Parker gets a long term injury then could be in big trouble.

West Ham will be in the top 10. Grant is a class manager and by the end of the transfer window they'll have a good squad.

Surprised no one has mentioned Newcastle United yet!
I'm a Toon fan since birth and have grown up through many different types of NUFC.
From Sir John Hall, to Freddy Sheppard to now Mike Ashley.
Anyway ( :pac: ), there's every chance we'll face the drop this season, and if you ask any Toon fan at the minute, they'd take 17th in a heartbeat.
Our squad will face a very tough test in the Premier League, whether the likes of Kevin Nolan, Fabricio Coloccini, Andy Carroll can all stand the test of the PL it remains to be seen.

However, they're a pretty huge price with any bookmaker, and ridiculously, ahead of Sunderland to win the Premier League @ 1000/1. If we survive it's a brilliant season, if we get relegated, it won't come as a shock.

My relegation candidates are : Wigan, Wolves, West Brom and Blackpool
Odd how three of those begin in 'W'

    :D

The more I look at Wigan the more tempted I am.

Poor squad now I look myself,GK's they are poor with Kirkland and a lad they loaned off Bolton who I dont think has ever played.Defence,Bramble about to leave,Figeuroa bound to leave,Melchiot gone and dont know enough about Alcaraz. They need to hold onto N'Zogbia,McCarthy looks good but that could be me hoping for Irelands sake. There main threat is upfront,Rodallega I rate but dont think he'll get the service and could be gone but I like Mauro Boselli and he should be their star performer. Not enough to keep them up though and I'm liking that 5/2 in Ladbrokes myself

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,377 ✭✭✭Warper

Ive backed the 5-2 on Wigan too, they took some beatings last year like 7-0, 8-0 kinda stuff. Martinez doesnt seem to cut it either, it is England, not Spain, some of the players he is after just wont cut it in England. The promoted teams always start off well and the only sure team to go down looks like Blackpool. Wigan have a load of negatives around them and the 5-2 is a cracking bet.

Blackpool to stay up I saw 5/2 in celtic, not too sure though.

Stoke wont go down , they are as solid a team defensively as any of the top teams in the league & they are very good at home.

  • Moderators Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭x PyRo

Bolton won't go down either, they'll be well clear.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Could easily see wigan going down, cant see bolton or west ham being in trouble this time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭Mezcita

Blackpool are nailed on. So that leaves two from three for me.

Think that the next week will be crucial for Fulham. They were in serious trouble before Hodgson took them over. While they do have some decent players I would not be suprised to see Schwarzer leave in the coming weeks which could be a big loss.

Manager choice will obviously be crucial and I think 9/1 represents decent value.

Wigan now 9/4. Will be lumping on this weekend.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

West Brom, Blackpool and one of Newcastle, Wigan and Bolton.

Really fancy Wigan to go down - they are just so inconsistent and Nzogbia probably won't have as good a season as last year. Wigan, Blackpool and WBA for me.

Is there anywhere you can back the three in a treble? Last year I got Portsmouth, Burnley & Hull as a trio at 20/1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 186 ✭✭munsterrugby09

    nzogbia is moving to marseille

Just lay them to be relegated at 1.31 on Betfair. Same bet and pays better than 5/2

Laying a team to be relegated is the same as backing them to stay up

You have the option to back them to stay up at 5/2, you obviously win your bet if they stay up. 5/2 is 3.5 in decimal odds

Or you lay them to be relegated at 1.31, that is you accept a bet from someone at 1.31 that they will be relegated. Again you profit if they stay up

How ever laying at 1.31 is the same as backing at 4.23 (3.23/1). Better result even after paying commission

I know it's not Premiership, but Portsmouth 11/4 to get relegated looks a very nice bet, after their shambles of a preseason tour.

Blackpool are evens with Bet365 to finish bottom, and 5/4 to be bottom on Christmas Day with PP

    Two decent bets IMO

Im not so sure , Mick has made some good signings over the summer & they have had a good pre-season results wise so far. I think there are teams worse off than them going into the new season but whether that manifests itself in the final league standings remains to be seen.

Blackpool/Wigan/West Brom but i think Newcastle and West Ham are going to struggle again this season.

i think wolves will struggle dis season..:)

They'll be as safe as houses with the players they've brought in. Solid in defense and now have two very capable forwards, not a hope will they go down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,555 ✭✭✭Gillington

I also think Wolves will struggle, the players they brought on are nowhere near good enough.Sure 3 out of them that they've bought got relegated last year with Hull and Burnley,Jelle Van Damme is the only one I rate of their signings

Hunt & Fletcher were the standout players for both Hull & Burnley last season. To say they are nowhere near good enough is a bit rash imo. Until he got injured Everton were linked heavily with Hunt while Fletcher scored 12 goals in a rubbish team last season.

I think they will both be starters for Wolves & should strengthen them a lot.
Like i said earlier , there are a lot better off than some of the other teams tipped to go down.

    (Screech of tyres)

Looks like Hughes will take on the Fulham job. He has experience at battling at the wrong end of the table so I no longer like the look of them getting the boot this season.

Hard to find any value in this market.

I think that 2/1 on portsmouth to be relegated is buying money. Could back it in the morning and be paid out by the weekend if the court case goes against them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭EI111

Do you think if they get booted out tomorrow i would get paid on bet365?

  • Moderators Posts: 8,755 ✭✭✭x PyRo

They won't get relegated IMO. They'll get in a few players on loan and stay up comfortably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 527 ✭✭✭EI111

Hmmm West ham don't look too good, wonder will avram turn it around, i never backed them anyway, just stuck to wigan
